“Don’t try and rip me off”

That was the call I received after a job I’d priced.

😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬

Raging I was - internally.

Kept my cool and asked the investor to explain

“Well I’ve had a price already for £31k and you’re asking for £48k”

I blankly looked back and said “I haven’t ASKED you for anything - I told you how much it was to hire me to do the work”

“Well how come the other guy is £17k cheaper???”

I asked if he wanted my honest answer…

He said yes

“Honestly : I don’t know”

But I’ll have you consider this.

What if he got it wrong?
What if he’s setting up some extras?
What if he takes a deposit a runs away?

I don’t know…

Also my price:

“Il do what I say I will in terms of time and quality”
“I’ll present invoices, updates, progress reports and spend forecasts throughout”
“You’ll get a consult before we start with our safety advisor and a design meeting to nail your spec down”

And bunch of other stuff

Lastly I don’t do price comparison …

You do

And that’s cool

If price was the thing that was driving your decision you should’ve said and I could’ve explained that quick and good quality isn’t cheap.

If you were looking for cheap, that’s OK but I’m not your guy

Cos I WILL NOT win jobs in that space

That’s cool too
