Tanabata, also known as the Star Festival, is a traditional Japanese festival celebrated on July 7th. It is based on a legend about two lovers, Orihime (the Weaver Star) and Hikoboshi (the Cowherd Star), who are separated by the Milky Way and can meet only once a year on this day.

People celebrate by writing their wishes on colourful strips of paper called tanzaku and hanging them on bamboo branches, hoping their wishes will come true.

Today, the night sky should be filled with beautiful stars here in Cornwall. If you have the chance, look up at the stars tonight and make a wish of your own. Happy TANABATA!
