If the kids are looking for something to do...there are some bags of sparkly fabric scraps in the book box and also a big sack for you to help yourselves from - take a carrier and fill up - don't be polite there's always plenty more so take the whole lot if you want to πŸ˜†.... Happy collaging/crafting/sewing - we'd love to see your pics of what you've made from them!

Thank you to all who visited the Book Box this weekend, you collectively added Β£68 to the Gardens Open total!
We're leaving it there (in the village hall car park) for a while longer as the weather is so nice! πŸ˜ŠπŸŒžπŸ“š

Thought it was about time for an update on how the plans for the book nook are coming along!
For anyone who isn't aware of the project: Stogumber Village Hall are currently fundraising to build a permanent place to house second hand books which will be open all day every day for anyone to access... Scroll back up this page to see details in previous posts..

Our fundraising total is now up to Β£800! So thank you to everyone who has 'sponsored a shingle' or bought a book and particularly to the Village show committee who donated profits from the village show last August.
As you can see we still have a way to go, so keep your support coming by sponsoring a shingle (if you havent done so already) or by picking up a book when you see the book stall around the village.

We have obtained (for free) some disused telegraph poles from western power for the support piles which is great news and means that works on the base/foundation can start over the summer hopefully so watch this space!
If anyone is in a position to also donate any materials to help with the build (connected to a builders merchant for example) that would be fantastic and will reduce the amount of ££s we need to raise.

Thank you all, you'll see the book stall at the village hall over the gardens open weekend (14th/15th June) and it will be popping up here and there around the village throughout the year so please do stop by for a visit and a browse!

*donations of good quality paperbacks are welcomed! (Due to not having a permanent home at present we are limiting our stock to paperbacks to make them easier to move around. Once in, we will welcome all kinds of books to stock the shelves 😁)

The new permanent community book hub will be situated at the back of Stogumber village hall's car park, next to the steps leading down to the field. It will make use of the dead bank space by being on stilts with a level accessible entrance from the car park level. It will be a timber frame hut with a cedar shingle cladded exterior and a circular window (just for fun!) looking out to the field. Anthony Cornish (AC Construction) will be donating the bulk of the labour so we just need to raise funds to purchase materials. We also welcome donations of materials to reduce the amount needed through fundraising.
The main way to help fundraise is to 'sponsor a shingle' for Β£2.50. Donors will have their name permanently marked onto one of the shingles used in the construction to celebrate the community who have helped to build it.
If there is anything you would like to know about the project please feel free to message us.

Hello all, exciting times! Here is the design for the new (permanent) community book hub at Stogumber village hall, also look out for this in person at the village show on 3rd August. I'll post some more details in a following post but enjoy the pretty artist's impression for now...

Hi All
Following on from our, quite succesful, initial trial run we have closed up The Book Box for a (hopefullly short temporary) while, to reassess how we can make it a practical long term thing.
In the meantime we are cataloging some of the books which you will find in the labelled photo albums on our FB page. If you would like anything message us direct and we will drop off to/arrange collection with you.
Very many thanks for your support so far and keep an eye on this page for updates!
*
Future plans will almost certainly involve some carpentry/DIY-ing so if anyone is interested in lending a hand, or you are a business willing to donate wood/materials in return for some advertising do let us know!
*
For anyone who's missed it, this is a project on behalf of Stogumber Village Hall (a registered charity) to provide a little community book shop/place in Stogumber Village. πŸ“š
