Employees of the week this week are:
C ( again!) for doing the Bakeability shopping independently and efficiently.
B - for great lane swimming, even when the others had stopped for a rest.
C- for professional behaviour in the cafe on Thursday
R - for building up his strength at the gym so he could help lift a heavy bed to go to the tip and also for making his secret recipe sausage rolls which have sold out at the last two cafes in 31 and 45 mins!

This week's Employees of the Week went to:
J ( Mowability) - for his hard work mowing Bawdrip churchyard
C ( Volunteering) - for keeping up with a lot of work at the Purplespoon Cafe
M ( Special Mention) - for his positive attitude to having a blood test ( when the first attempt had been quite traumatic)
S ( Bakeability) - for getting on with the unglamorous job of washing up with great patience and stamina.

Well done to all four!

Bakeability - A, for making scones for the first time and her stamina and positive attitude during a very busy cafe.
Volunteering - H, for great verbal communication with another volunteer at the charity shop.
Mowability - L for weeding almost all of a rockery on her own ( L will get her award next week as she's not in on Fridays)
Special Mention - B, for his quick thinking and engagement in the Tuesday communication group.

Could You Offer a Few Hours of Paid Work?

Helping local young adults into employment

Stepping Out supports young adults with learning disabilities and autism to develop their skills, confidence and independence.
We are now working with local businesses to create opportunities for genuine, paid, part-time employment.

We’re looking for employers who may be able to offer around 4–12 hours of work a week, depending on the individual and the role.

What could the work involve?
It could be an existing part-time role or a collection of useful tasks within your business.
For example:
• Customer service
• Café and catering work
• Stocking and replenishment
• Cleaning and housekeeping
• Gardening and outdoor work
• Preparing orders
• Laundry
• Packing and labelling
• Office or administrative tasks
We are particularly interested in finding opportunities that match an individual’s strengths and interests.

You won’t be expected to do it alone
Our team provides support to help make the arrangement successful.
We can help with:
Finding the right match
We get to know the young person’s strengths, interests and support needs.
Getting started
We can support the initial introduction, induction and learning of the job.
Job coaching
A member of our team can provide additional support while the employee learns the role.
Ongoing contact
We remain available to both the employee and employer if questions or difficulties arise.
Building independence
Where appropriate, support can gradually reduce as the employee becomes more confident.

What could your business gain?
You could gain a reliable member of your team while helping a local young person:
• Earn their own money
• Develop valuable skills
• Build confidence
• Become more independent
• Contribute to their community
For some businesses, it may also be an opportunity to fill those small but important tasks that often get pushed aside because other staff are too busy.

Entry to the village via Bradney Lane while the bridge at the bottom of Bawdrip Lane and New Road is being repaired.

This week we introduced our new Employees of the Week awards.
Congratulations to B who received the Mowability award for his stamina and team work; to C who received the Volunteer Award for great independent work and initiative at the Purplespoon Cafe; to A, who got the Bakeability award for focus while making cakes for Purplespoon and energy as a kitchen runner at our cafe and to K, who was nominated for the Special Mention award by M for helping B to play Uno with the group.

On Friday we said a sad goodbye to Carolyn, Stepping Out's team leader. Carolyn has been a lynch pin of our team for the last 3 years and will be hugely missed. She has said she will pop in from time to time though! Good luck Carolyn from us all!
