LITTLE REVIEW OF YESTERDAY'S OUTTING
A cracking end-of-season day on the Lake of Menteith 🎣🏴🏴
Had a brilliant day out on the Lake of Menteith, fishing as a guest/special constable for Police Scotland in their annual fun match against the different police forces travelling up from England.
A great way to round off the season with a wee Scotland v England match, plenty of laughs, good company and, thankfully, the weather played ball for most of the day! It started absolutely flat calm, but the wind finally picked up in the afternoon and gave us a bit more to work with.
For once, I actually left my usual LOOP 7X in the car. 😂 Instead, I decided to give one of the new LOOP TRÄK 10ft a proper day out. We recently had some TRÄK rods delivered to the lake as demo rods for anglers to get their hands on and try, so it was a perfect chance for me to fish one rather than just have it cast properly.
Is it a 7X? No—but it's not trying to be.
There's a reason for the difference. The TRÄK targets a completely different part of the market. It's a rod for the everyday working angler who wants that LOOP feel, quality, and performance without spending 7X the money.
And after a full day fishing the 10ft #7, I was seriously impressed.
For the money, it's an absolute cracking rod. Light in the hand, lovely to cast, and it handled brilliantly throughout the day. Put it up against plenty of rods sitting at an even higher price point, and I honestly think it would surprise a lot of people. You still get that premium LOOP feel and build quality, just at a far more accessible price.
I'm normally reaching for my 7Xs, but the TRÄK has convinced me enough that I'll be getting myself a 10ft #5 as a permanent car rod. Something I can always have with me, happily chuck about and actually use without constantly worrying about battering my more expensive kit.
And anyone who knows me — and my AuDHD — knows I'm not exactly famous for treating my fishing gear with kid gloves, especially when one of my wee tantrums kicks in. 🤣🤦♂️
All in all, a cracking day on Menteith, great company and a really enjoyable way to finish off the season.
Scotland v England, fishing rods out instead of handbags. 🎣😂🏴🏴
And the wee TRÄK definitely earned its place in the kit. 👌🎣
