Simply Cellos Simply Cellos is a unique 'cello shop as I specialise in renting or selling secondhand but high quality cellos that have been set up to perfection!

ely at home. I long ago became fed up with the awful cellos that pupils were bringing to their lessons. Most rental and sales shops send their cellos out straight from the manufacturer. The bridges and top nuts are set too high (making it hard for little fingers to press the strings down), the pegs often dont stay as they haven't properly fitted, and the strings are cheap factory ones. So I started to buy good quality secondhand cellos and have them properly set up, then change the strings to expensive, great quality ones. This really does make such a difference - both to the pupil playing the cello and to the parents listening to them practise! I became so passionate about it that I set up Simply Cellos, just renting out to pupils at the schools I taught at. Other cello teachers heard about what I do, and so Simply Cellos began to expand! I thought it was about time I expanded further and set up an actual shop, providing quality Cellos of all sizes and levels to both children and adults. I am very excited to send these lovely cellos on their way to new homes!

The ten steps of changing a Cello Tailpiece...it really is quite a lengthy, tricky job, but one I enjoy doing!

This lovely Andreas Zeller Cello came to me recently and needed some work done before being rented out.

Part of that was to change the old heavy wooden tailpiece with metal adjusters for a much lighter, slimmer alloy one.

This makes a big difference to the sound of the cello, as the extra weight of the old tailpiece dampens the sound.
It also makes the cello heavier!

Fields of Gold Played on the Stentor Conservatoire I have for Hire/Rental/Sale with the amazing Pirastro Permanent Soloist Strings that have superbly opened up the sound and projection on this beautiful cello!

Which ones you cry?

What will suit my cello?

Here at Simply Cellos, Sarah is an expert in matching the right strings (or combination of strings) to each cello.

Every cello that is rented or sold here has had Sarah experiment on finding the right strings for it.

Every cello has different qualities, different projection levels, sometimes the top two strings outshine the bottom two, etc.

Also the balance is important...for example if you mix gut lower strings with steel upper strings, it can create or worsen a "Wolfe note"

Got to love a good Attic find 😍

Just a 'Cellist in a Poppy field...with the incredible photographer Steve Parkes 🤩

The Cello I was modelling with in this photo is a German Sandner Cello, which I enjoy playing so much I use it for teaching with!

Apart from the sound being a rich, open sound, and it being so easy to play, the colours of the wood are so beautiful and unusual.

I have many Cellos in stock, ranging from 1/32 size to full size.

Most Cellos are available either for hire or for sale.

In the full size range, I have all levels to choose from...from beginner to £6,000 cellos

Every single Cello is set up superbly by Anthony Nickolds Violins, then I change the strings to either Prelude or Larsen Aurora.

For the higher level Cellos, I use whichever strings the Cello chooses...ie I play around with different strings to find the best ones for that Cello 🤩

I choose between:

Larsen Original
Larsen Magnacore
Jargar or Jargar Evoke
Pirastro Permanent
Pirastro Permanent Edition
Plus many more!

Such amazing fun in beautiful woods, with the light shining through the trees, and birds singing...oh and quite a few laughs between the (very serious of course! 😂) photos 🤩
