Pure foods bulk syrups are super versatile and great for adding a sweet, fruity flavour to drinks and desserts.

Today is Emancipation Day which commemorates the day slavery was finally abolished on August 1 1838.

Historical reports say Jamaican slaves traveled to the mountaintops to watch the sunrise, as a symbolic gesture for the new beginnings in their lives. As dawn broke, their thanksgiving rituals extended to the churches throughout the land.

However, true political freedom was not achieved until 1962, when Jamaica gained their independence.
Emancipation Day was then discontinued and replaced by Independence Day.

Emancipation Day was later re-instituted in 1997 by then Prime Minister the Honourable Percival James (PJ) Patterson as a national holiday to "celebrate and solemnly recall emancipation from chattel slavery, the most sustained and barbaric violation of human rights in the history of mankind."
