One of my favourite completed pieces has now been collected and is settling into its new home.

This vibrant cat portrait was created stitch by stitch, bringing together bold colours, texture, and personality to create a truly eye-catching piece of artwork. Seeing a handmade creation leave the studio is always bittersweet, but knowing it will be enjoyed for years to come makes it all worthwhile.

One of the things I love most about handmade crafts is bringing someone else's idea to life.

I was recently asked to create this Union Jack tea cosy as a custom order, and I was delighted with how it turned out. Every stitch was carefully worked to create a piece that was both practical and full of personality.
There's something special about making an item that is completely unique to the person who requested it. Knowing it has now found its forever home makes all the time and effort worthwhile.

Handmade items aren't just products – they're little pieces of creativity, made with care and attention that simply can't be found on a factory shelf.

From First Chain to Finished Blanket

One of the most rewarding moments as a crochet teacher is seeing a student return with something they have created entirely on their own.

This week, one of my students proudly showed me the beautiful granny square blanket she completed after attending my Beginner Crochet Course. Seeing her confidence grow from learning her first chain stitch to creating a full-sized blanket was a wonderful reminder of why I started teaching.

The blanket is made up of carefully joined granny squares, each one building on the skills learned throughout the course. What impressed me most wasn't just the finished result, but the dedication, patience, and creativity that went into completing such a large project.

Crochet is about more than learning stitches. It is about gaining the confidence to take an idea and turn it into something real. Watching students develop those skills and create projects they are proud of is incredibly rewarding.

During today's lesson, we moved on to discussing her next challenge – designing and creating a cardigan. Together we explored ideas, construction methods, and ways to adapt the project to suit her vision. That journey from following a pattern to creating something uniquely your own is where the real magic happens.

I am incredibly proud of what she has achieved and grateful that she shared her finished blanket with me. Moments like these remind me that every project starts with a single stitch.

Well done, Lorraine – your blanket is beautiful, and I can't wait to see what you create next.
