Decider 2026… not our event, and maybe not our year 🙁
The weekend started on Thursday when we arrived and got set up camping with the Layfield brothers. Truck unloaded, camp sorted and signed on ready for racing Friday.
After a very wet and windy night, we were ready to go Friday morning… although our racing turned out to be very short and sweet 😂
The prologue had the same hill where it all went wrong for us last year. This time though, we had a plan and we were sticking to it. Megan got out to watch me down, I selected low box second gear and the plan was to just let the truck do the work.
About halfway down we started gaining a lot more speed than I would’ve liked. At that point I decided I was committed, so just held on and aimed for the bottom.
Unfortunately, we didn’t quite make it 😂
I didn’t see a stump which pushed us off line. The passenger front wheel caught a tree, turned the truck about 90° and sent us into another tree behind us.
The marshals were straight there to make sure we were both okay and help us out. Unfortunately, that was our Decider over almost as quickly as it started, thanks to the partial removal of the front axle 😂🤦♂️
On the plus side… the new winch was completely unscathed! So that’s something 😂
After some clever use of ratchet straps, we managed to get the truck dragged back to the pits. With plenty of help from the other teams we got her loaded back onto the trailer.
A massive thank you to everyone who offered us parts, tools and even workshop space to try and get us back out racing. Unfortunately, the damage was just a bit too extensive and we needed more parts than we could realistically sort at the event.
Once home, we had another load of help from our amazing friends at the yard getting the truck unloaded and tucked away in the barn ready for surgery over the next few months.
Definitely not how we wanted Decider 2026 to go, especially after what happened last year, but that’s racing. We’re both okay, the truck can be rebuilt and we’ll be back 💪
Although I think it’s safe to say it might finally be time for a new front axle… 👀
So the question is…
What axle should we go for? Y61? D2? Something else entirely? 🤔
Time to build her back stronger 💪 🛠️
