We were thrilled to work alongside Bentley Motors in creating bespoke, hand-cut crystal forms specifically for the new Bentley Torcal that was officially launched yesterday.

The diamond pattern is one of Bentley's most enduring design signatures and the new Torcal continues that story, from its jewel-like floating diamond grille to innovative digital displays created using real handcrafted artefacts.

And it was this digital display that gave the team at Bentley the idea to come to Cumbria Crystal! 💎

Drawing on the knowledge and intuition of our glassmakers and crystal cutters in Cumbria, the geometry of the diamond was explored physically...cut by hand, studied from different angles and allowed to interact naturally with light.

Light was then passed through the finished crystal, revealing reflections, refractions and subtle variations unique to the hand-cut surface.

These effects became part of the visual inspiration for the Torcal’s digital displays, translating the character of physical craftsmanship into a distinctly contemporary digital environment. 💙

It’s lovely to see that, even in an increasingly digital world, there is still a real appreciation for the beauty of something made by hand.❤️

When Bentley Motors design team were creating the digital displays for the new Torcal, they wanted to incorporate Bentley’s iconic diamond pattern. Creating it digitally would have been the obvious solution, but it was simply too 'perfect'. They wanted the natural variations and subtle imperfections that you only get with a hand-crafted material.

And that’s why the team at Bentley came to us! We worked together with Bentley to create bespoke, hand-cut crystal objects, and by filming a light passing through the crystal, the designers were able to create a distinctive visual signature to the Torcal.

It’s a wonderful example of traditional British craftsmanship being used to bring depth, character and a sense of humanity to something thoroughly modern. We’re incredibly proud to have been part of it. 😊

The diamond pattern has been part of Bentley Motors grille design since the 1920s, when wire mesh was used to protect the tall radiators from stones and debris. For the new Bentley Torcal, that heritage has been reinterpreted for a new era.

When Bentley’s design team began creating the Torcal’s digital displays, they wanted the diamond pattern to be present in a way that felt authentic. Rather than relying solely on computer-generated graphics, they wanted the character and beauty of a hand-crafted material.

That’s where Cumbria Crystal came in.

Our skilled team created bespoke, hand-cut crystal objects, right here in the Lake District. By filming light passing through the crystal, Bentley transformed our craftsmanship into a distinctive visual signature for the Torcal. 💎
