Minden Day – 1 August

On 1 August each year, several British Army regiments commemorate the Battle of Minden (1759) by celebrating Minden Day.

As part of this long-standing tradition, soldiers of regiments including the Royal Anglian Regiment and the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers wear distinctive red and yellow Minden Roses behind their cap badges in remembrance of the battle and the courage of those who fought there.

We have these traditional red and yellow Minden Roses available for sale, making them ideal for serving personnel, veterans, collectors and anyone wishing to mark this important regimental tradition.

⚠️ Important Update for Customers in Denmark, Germany & Luxembourg

Following the introduction of the EU's new customs arrangements on 1 July 2026, we have reluctantly decided to suspend all orders to Denmark, Germany and Luxembourg with immediate effect.

This decision is not because we do not wish to supply customers in these countries.

The reason is that, under the new arrangements, Denmark, Germany and Luxembourg no longer accept postal items sent on a Delivery Duty Unpaid (DDU) basis. Royal Mail advises that import duties and taxes for these countries must now be paid by the sender before shipping.

Since starting our business in 1990, we have shipped overseas orders on a Delivery Duty Unpaid (DDU) basis. As stated in our Terms & Conditions, any import duties, VAT, customs charges or handling fees have always been the responsibility of the recipient.

As a small family-run business, we are not registered for the EU Import One-Stop Shop (IOSS) and it is simply not practical or cost-effective for us to collect overseas taxes and duties on behalf of foreign governments.

As a result, we are no longer able to accept orders for delivery to:

🇩🇪 Germany
🇱🇺 Luxembourg

Customers in other EU countries can continue to order as normal, with shipments being sent on a Delivery Duty Unpaid (DDU) basis where this remains available.

We sincerely apologise to our customers in these three countries. Many of you have been loyal customers for many years, and we very much appreciate your support. We hope that circumstances will change in the future, allowing us to resume shipping.

If you live in an EU country and are considering placing an order from the KellyBadges website, I recommend ordering before 25 June 2026 to allow sufficient time for order processing and shipping before new EU customs rules take effect on 1 July 2026.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴?
The European Union is introducing new customs charges on low-value goods imported from non-EU countries from 1 July 2026.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝗨 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗨𝗞 𝘁𝗮𝘅.
The Council of the EU's own explanations repeatedly state that the reform is primarily intended to deal with the enormous volume of low-value parcels entering the EU, particularly from large e-commerce platforms. Billions of such parcels enter the EU annually, the vast majority from outside the EU. Please see the link in the comments.

As a result, specialist collectors buying historic buttons, badges and militaria from small dealers are being caught by rules that were largely designed to address mass-market e-commerce imports.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆?
From 1 July 2026, a new €3 customs duty will apply to low-value goods imported into the EU from non-EU countries. Current guidance indicates that the charge applies per product category (tariff classification) rather than per individual item.

For example:

• 10 brass buttons would normally count as one product category (€3).
• 2 horn buttons would normally count as one product category (€3).
• 8 cloth badges would normally count as one product category (€3).
• A parcel containing brass buttons, horn buttons and cloth badges could contain three separate product categories (€9).

In addition to the new €3 per category customs duty, customers may also be required to pay:

• Import VAT
• Customs clearance fees
• Postal or courier handling charges
• Any other charges imposed by customs authorities in the destination country

𝗡𝗼 𝗨𝗞 𝘁𝗮𝘅𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲
Ian Kelly Militaria does not charge UK VAT on exports outside the United Kingdom.

Any customs duties, VAT, handling fees or other import charges are imposed by the European Union and/or the recipient's own country and are collected by the destination country's customs authorities or delivery operator.

𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗗𝘂𝘁𝘆 𝗨𝗻𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗱 (𝗗𝗗𝗨)
Ian Kelly Militaria will continue to ship on a Delivery Duty Unpaid (DDU) basis.
This means that any import duties, VAT, customs charges or handling fees are the responsibility of the recipient and must be paid before delivery where required.

𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀 – 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗮 𝗼𝗳 𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘆

The position for collectable items remains somewhat unclear.
Many collectors purchase individual buttons and badges of different types, values and countries of origin within the same order. Whilst several items may share the same customs classification, they may still appear as separate lines on customs documentation.

The interpretation and practical application of the new rules may vary between EU member states, customs authorities and postal operators. We will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as further guidance becomes available.
