In the run-up to our event, we're telling you all about our amazing stallholders. We have a mix of indie authors, book sellers and other bookish businesses to tell you about!

Today we're telling you about Penny Rogers. Penny Rogers’ novella Amelie at the Window was published in October 2025 by Bridge House and has been enthusiastically reviewed. Since then she has had short stories published in print and online.

"Following the publication of Amelie at the Window, I have been busy not only promoting the book, but also publishing stories in the UK and US. You can read some of my stories for free on sites like Spillwords https://spillwords.com/ and CafΓ©Lit https://www.cafelit.co.uk/ I have edited a collection by US poet Tom Formaro (publication due late 2026). I give talks and run
workshops for groups of writers and readers, and I am Writer in Residence at Verwood Library. When I'm not writing, I like swimming and knitting, though not at the same time!"

In the run-up to our event, we're telling you all about our amazing stallholders.

Today's spotlight is for Steve Couch, a local author, writing fast-paced character-led thrillers with heart. Readers have called his books β€˜page-turners’ and β€˜hard to put down’, comparing him to Nick Hornby and David Nicholls.

"I’m so proud of my latest novel, Imogen Imagine, which came out at the end of September – just in time for the Verwood Book Fair. I’ll also be bringing copies of my previous books, Dead Man Singing and Foul and Fair. Ask me about going into a professional recording studio to actually record the song at the centre of my main character’s problems in Imogen Imagine.
I write about flawed characters whose lives have taken a wrong turn and who are looking for a way back to where they belong, or forward to something better. I like hooky concepts and fast-paced plots, but it’s the human story that holds people’s attention and makes them care about how the story ends."

children

"I’m a former magazine writer and editor, who now enjoys writing and publishing fairy stories for children aged 6-10, as well as contemporary fiction aimed at the more mature woman. I also write shorter pieces and have been fortunate enough to have won a
number of writing competitions. My stories have also appeared in anthologies and magazines. My books are published through Amazon UK and are available in print and digital
versions, the most recent of which is my children’s title β€˜Who Let the Cat Out?’, a new paperback just published in time for the Verwood Book Fair."

Today we're telling you about the book 'A Boy Called Arsenal'. Both the author and the titular Arsenal are based in Dorset, and together they visit schools, businesses, and NHS organisations to help people gain a better understanding of autism.

"Arsenal’s Autism Talk is now part of the programmes at Bournemouth University and Southampton Solent University, where he speaks to first-year psychology students. Our book is now on its eighth print run and has reached number 1 on Amazon."

Today we're telling you about Pankaj Sulodia. Pankaj Sulodia is a local children’s author, artist and full-time teacher whose stories grow from his work with children and his fascination with people, places, nature and cultures from around the world.

"My writing began through my work as a teacher, when I couldn’t find the right story for my class and decided to write one myself. Since then, I have written and published a collection of children’s books inspired by many different things such as from the children I teach and the way they see the world, to nature, history, people and cultures from around the world. I love stories that children can simply enjoy, but which might also awaken curiosity, introduce them to something unfamiliar or begin a conversation."

In the run-up to our event, we're telling you all about our amazing stallholders.

The next author to introduce to you is Bronwen Leigh. Bronwen Leigh is a Bournemouth-based independent author writing a speculative fiction series called Rare, set in a world where there aren't many women. Her debut novel, Daughter of Ilithian, was published in August 2026.

"I have always wanted to write, and now I finally am - it's completely amazing. I'm loving every moment of it. I had the idea for Rare years ago, but started book one early in 2025. This became Daughter of Ilithian which was released independently on Amazon in early August 2026. The process of creating a whole world has been so exciting, and once I had my main character, she led me through her story as she finds herself at the centre of huge change that is needed in her world. I made the decision to self publish as I was so keen to get my book out into the world (and continue with the next book) that the thought of potentially waiting years to find a publisher and agent wasn't something I could deal with. I used a proper editor and had an artist friend design my cover - so I feel like I have done things properly, and the reviews so far are very positive."

"I'm a thriller writer and avid reader, and my first book Behind the Lies was released in 2024. The idea came to me while walking alone in a quiet, deserted street without my phone, and wondering what I would do if someone started following me and there was nobody to help! With my vivid imagination, I'd scared myself by the time I returned home and the seed was planted for my very first book. I love to write fast-paced thrilling stories that keep readers on the edge of their seat and I'm currently writing my 5th book.."

Today we're telling you about S. M. Mitchell. S. M. Mitchell is a chronically ill, swashbuckling night-owl pagan, whose love of pirates, the gothic and all things historical led to her starting her career as a literary fantasy novelist back in 2015.

"I'm a massive bookworm and history nerd, a lover of gardening and monster movies. I’ve been in the book industry since 2015 as an author, a book marketing specialist, writing coach, and formerly, a publisher. In my day job, I work with budding writers to achieve their dream of becoming a published author through a wide variety of services. I write literary fiction in dark fantasy settings, often featuring morally grey (and despicable!) characters, and have recently delved into the delicious world of gothic romance and horror."

Today we're telling you about Jo Chinn. Jo Chinn is an independent author based in the New Forest. Her debut novel Under the Hickory Tree was published in June 2025, and her second, Blood Never Lies, is due in Spring 2027.

"I write page-turning stories about the things families hide, and what happens when the truth comes out. My stories are inspired by my fascination with genealogy and how our ancestors' decisions still resonate today. I self-published the audiobook of my novel on Audible, Amazon and Apple Books."
