A quick trip to Madrid and suddenly I’m convinced I need to spend the next three months drinking cocktails, wearing ridiculous earrings and pretending every ice cream, market stall and colourful building is “business research”.

Featuring my Shell Earrings, a cocktail that cost more than my first hourly wage, and a camera roll now 90% full of inspiration photos I’ll definitely forget to look at again.

✨ Finally got to travel abroad for work... if you ignore the fact it was technically a girls’ holiday. ✨

After nearly 6 years of running BHF, Madrid became my first international “business trip” (and by business trip, I mean my friends were my personal photographers so I could get some cute pics in various picturesque locations).

Things I achieved:
✈️ Flew abroad
📸 Took approximately 847 photos
🌈 Collected enough colour palette inspiration for the next 3 years
🌶️ Conducted serious research into how good my hot sauce necklace looks in Spain
🍹 Drank cocktails in the name of networking

Tax deductible? Probably not.
Business research? Absolutely.

Turns out when you own a small business, you don’t really switch off. You just take your work to a sunnier location and encourage your friends to become unpaid content creators.

The first official stop on the BHF Summer Market Tour is happening on 27th June and I am ridiculously excited to be trading with Lucky Dip Market at Shredenhams from 12–5pm 💖✨

I’ll be packing up the glitter, loading up the earrings, and making the very sensible decision to travel across the country with several hundred tiny sparkly objects.

Market stall glow-up incoming 👀✨

I’ve been trading at markets since 2020 and honestly... my stall has been through more eras than some pop stars.

Since my very first market I’ve traded at:
✨ 297 markets
🎄 3 Christmas shows
💄 2 Drag Cons
🦸 4 Comic Cons
🎪 1 festival
🇯🇵 1 Hyper Japan

Over the years I’ve added height, banners, new branding, new tablecloths and approximately 47 different display solutions that I was convinced would change my life.

It’s been a lot of trial and error, a lot of carrying suitcases, and a lot of learning what actually gets people to stop and browse.

My friends thought we were on a girls’ trip.

I thought I was conducting important business research. 🫡

Things I accidentally turned into work in Madrid:
✨ Colour palettes
✨ Food Markets
✨ Tile Patterns
✨ Interesting interiours
✨ Cocktails (for research purposes, obviously)
✨ Any vaguely quirky object that could potentially become an earring

The downside of running a small business is that your brain never switches off.

The upside is that inspiration can strike absolutely anywhere... even three cocktails deep in a Madrid plaza.

Tax deductible? Probably not.
Business research? Absolutely. 💅
