We are delighted to announce that we have a new date for the Chief Foreign Correspondent of the Sunday Times, Christina Lamb to come to Books at the Barn Oxfordshire after she had to postpone her talk with us on 2nd October as she was accompanying HRH Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh to the DRC (see Sunday Times 5th October) where she met Congo’s most famous doctor, the Nobel laureate Dr Denis Mukwege who she mentions in her book OUR BODIES, Their BATTLEFIELDS which she will be discussing as well as talking about her life as a foreign correspondent.

She will now be coming on Wednesday 3rd December at 7pm at Eastmanton House, Sparsholt, Wantage OX12 9PJ.

Tickets are £17.50 including a glass of wine and available from www.booksatthebarn.co.uk.

Wantage Bookshop will be with us on the night with copies of the book, OUR BODIES, THEIR BATTLEFIELDS available to purchase.

In collaboration with The White Horse Festival, on Friday 3rd October at 12pm we have a Lunchtime Talk for all you lovers of music when we have one fo the country’s most versatile and dynamic conductors, HILARY DAVAN WETTON coming to discuss his wide ranging and illustrious career.

‘Reflections on Conducting’ is for anyone with an interest in the English choral and orchestral music scenes, both amateur and professional, as well as conducting students.

In his engaging and approachable style, Hilary will speak about conducting techniques, rehearsing, touring, recording and working with living composers.

Illustrated with recordings and intriguing and humorous anecdotes, this talk is a must for all who would like to know more about the Conductor’s art.

Hilary has conducted some of Britain’s leading choirs, as well as recording with the LPO, the RPO and the Philharmonia Orchestra. He was also the presenter of Classic FM’s ‘Masterclass’, in which he explored great orchestral works and has just relinquished the role of Artistic Director of the Military Wives Choirs.

Join us at Books at the Barn Oxfordshire on Thursday 2nd October with CHRISTINA LAMB, Chief Foreign Correspondent at The Sunday Times and one of Britain’s leading foreign journalists. She has been awarded Foreign Correspondent of the Year five times as well as Europe’s top war reporting prize, the Prix Bayeux.

In her latest book, OUR BODIES THEIR BATTLEFIELDS she examines how r**e has been used as a weapon of war. R**e and war have a long and painful history and today, the story hasn’t changed. R**e is a cruel, insidious and growing part of war, used against hundreds of thousands of women – often as part of barbaric military strategy.

In this searing, angry reckoning of a book – the first major account to address the scale of sexual assault in modern conflict – Christina Lamb exposes the unheard stories of these women with unfailing care and humanity. How in countries around the world r**e is used as a weapon. It is also a biting condemnation of the way r**e is accepted and ignored.

The book has recently been updated to include the war in Ukraine.
