WHY I STOPPED SELLING TO THE EU And why Etsy is supporting and now calling for change.
I’m a one-person UK business.
I sell small art prints and handmade products.
But selling into the EU can bring product-compliance and packaging obligations that are difficult and costly to navigate at microbusiness scale.
So I stopped selling to EU customers.
Not because there wasn’t a market.
Because I couldn’t justify the compliance burden against the likely sales.
Etsy is now calling for change.
Simpler.
More consistent.
Proportionate to business size and sales volume.
Small businesses aren’t asking for no rules.
We need rules that protect consumers and the environment without making small-scale cross-border trade commercially impractical.
