In my watercolour workshops I explain how sometimes leaving small areas unfinished or just emerging from the paper can give your artwork a lovely artistic feel. It doesn’t always have to be perfect or finished. You can almost imagine where the artist was going next.

I am delighted to have been asked to host a botanical watercolour workshop for one week next May 2027 Atelier Clos Mirabel

Atelier Clos Mirabel is situated in an area of outstanding national beauty in the Pyrénées Atlantiques, South West France near the village of Jurançon and city of Pau. It is set in its own private park overlooking vineyards to the mountains beyond.

There is a dedicated creative atelier where I will teach a botanical watercolour workshop starting on Sunday 23rd May and ending on 28th May with a day off midweek to explore. We will be studying and painting the local flowers at Atelier Clos Mirabel.

What to expect from me:

My artwork reflects a gentle attention to detail, using light and shadow to create beautiful botanical paintings. I create layers of watercolour with richness and depth, balanced by areas of simple pencil drawing and a thoughtful understanding of when to leave parts of the work untouched. I will guide you through this process during the week.

Cherry blossom hand painted in watercolour. This painting not only took a long time to compose but also to paint. Painting flowers with such light petals is difficult. You have to be so light with touch to achieve the shadows and highlights.

Wild Poppy from the meadows Manor Hive painted in watercolour. This was the poppy I drew and used as my demonstration painting in my watercolour workshop at Manor Hive last Thursday. I adore poppies and this is just the start of many more that I will be drawing and painting.
