All our flowerpots are designed and handmade on the premises by a team of 25 potters and come with a 10 year frostproof guarantee. Visitors are welcome to come and take a look around the Pottery and see how each pot is handmade and fired. The Courtyard Garden is beautifully cared for with a huge variety of plantings in a range of our flowerpots to give you planting ideas for your own Whichford Pots. The stockyard holds a lot of our pots, ready to be bought and taken home with you to start your very own Whichford collection. We also provide a bespoke service - you can choose any pot to be inscribed with words of your choice, a crest, or alternative design. These are perfect as a gift or to commemorate a special event. ‘How a Garden can Support Wildlife’ - a talk by Fergus Garrett at Whichford Pottery   We are delighted to welcome Fergus Garrett, Head Gardener at Great Dixter, back to the Pottery. In this inspiring talk, he will explore insights from the biodiversity audit at Great Dixter, revealing how the garden supports an extraordinary range of wildlife, including 40% of UK bee species!  Fergus will demonstrate how the findings from Great Dixter can directly relate to other gardens, large and small and prove what an important resource these spaces are for conserving some of our most threatened wildlife.  Learn how, collectively, along with roadside verges, brownfield sites, urban and suburban spaces, our own gardens can play an important role in the future of many of our native species.

Set of Five RHS Halfpots

During his apprenticeship in the 1970s Jim’s mentor would throw over 100 small Halfpots in a day! Here, Dylan is using 9lbs of clay to make the RHS Halfpots - continuing the tradition and craftsmanship.

He will then use the same ‘three pull technique’ as the English Country Potters to throw the form of the pot. Here, you will see his right hand moving the ‘third pull’, bringing the wall of the pot to the desired height.

Once he has formed the rim and smoothed the sides with his ribber, Dylan will use a paint brush to apply a light layer of ash slip...
..before offering the handcarved roulette up to the wall of the pot and running this through the slip to create the patterned border.

Finally, Dylan will add his maker’s mark along with the Whichford stamp to signal heritage before the pot is nurtured through the drying and firing processes by the team.

Growing Crazy is a small, specialist nursery dedicated to cultivating rare, heritage and unusual Pelargoniums. With a collection of over 400 different varieties, they are passionate about preserving the history and charm of these plants
