As both a painter and dancer, movement finds its way into these worlds. These small and miniature abstract paintings are playful explorations of rhythm, colour, gesture, and curiosity—each one inviting you to pause, look closer, and discover your own story within.

There is a quiet confidence in these porcelain works. On show at Sylvan are bowls and vases by the ceramic artist Emma Donoghue who is based on the North Yorkshire coast. Through delicate glazes, richly textured surfaces and carefully considered marks, each piece reveals a deeply personal language of making. Unexpected details, including the subtle incorporation of buttons, add rhythm and intrigue, inviting us to slow down and appreciate the beauty of texture, form and material. Each object by this artist is unique and very special. Do come and see this work if you are in the area.

We were delighted to receive a selection of ceramic work by multi-technique artist Katrina McEvoy for the gallery this week.

On display now are beautifully made cups, bowls, a vase, a teapot and a flask. Each piece is made to be enjoyed in everyday life, and Katrina’s distinctive motif of little legs sticking out of the sea adds a playful touch and a lovely sense of coastal character throughout the collection.

If you’re looking for a favourite new mug or a unique handmade gift, we’d love to welcome you into the gallery to take a look.

Alongside our folklore collections of art we currently have a selection of my local landscape paintings on display at the gallery.

Many of the paintings are inspired by the beach and its constantly changing character - the shifting tides, changing light, and ever changing skies that make each visit feel different from the last which keeps drawing me back to paint from my travelling studio.

If youre visiting the gallery I hope youll enjoy taking a look.

These striking prints made with the traditional copper plate aquatint and drypoint techniques by local artist and filmaker Chad Hodgson inhabit a world where human and animal forms merge, echoing the dark psychological landscapes of Goya. Ravens and crows appear as watchful witnesses, messengers, and omens, lending each work a quiet intensity. These beautifully drawn artworks invite us into a realm where folklore, memory, and instinct intertwine. We currently have just three on show and are eagerly awaiting more from this artist.
