At 5pm on Wednesday I was waiting for some wood glue to dry on my current project when this little table gave me A Look 👀

So naturally this sweet little makeover happened, and I think I’ve now managed to get the last of the dreamy summer florals out of my system. Just as well, since I can feel those cosy darker Autumnal tones calling… 😉 🐇

In fairness, the floor does need doing. And at least I’ve successfully managed to replace one clean, four minute job with a messy and expensive several-day project which inconveniences the whole family.

I think we can all agree this has gone extremely well. 😬 🐇

(PS Taylor I’ll be taking you up on that offer of a sofa, I’ll bring the Prosecco)

I saw this one online and had every intention of a gentle restoration. Unfortunately, in common with many middle aged women browsing for things online, I was catfished 😮

The photos had been kind, but reality arrived with MUCH MORE baggage and worrying decrepitude than expected. 😬

(And, before anyone comes for me, it is a vintage repro piece and not a priceless antique.)

Still, look at those bones. I remained convinced that this veneer had hidden beauty which could be revealed by some gentle care and attention.

NOPE. What I got instead was endless mysterious red bleed, endless chips and gouges, and cabinet locks welded shut by spite and the passage of time.

As such - after several tantrums on my part - we changed direction. Deep navy, rich elderberry, worn florals, a little texture, a splash of gold and two new locks (installed with considerably more professionalism than was displayed during their removal).

Now, I’m thinking this look is what she was waiting for all along.

So maybe I wasn’t catfished after all. Maybe it was just an extremely awkward first date 😘

Available now in the Etsy store (or DM for direct buy discount) 😊 🐇

Well, this one is done and I’m giving you lot a little sneaky preview because I’m an impatient madam 😉

Deep navy, faded florals, a wine-toned interior and legs for days which culminate in a splash of gold, because apparently I’ve come over all fancypants 👑

Proper reveal tomorrow when I’ve remembered the measurements and can actually get it listed… 🙄 😆 🐇

I can confirm, for the somethingth year running, that school holidays are not very conducive to being a highly productive furniture wrangler.

Who knew?!
Me. I knew.

Anyway, between some lovely days out, laundry claiming its own wing of the house and me being an instant response taxi, my workshop has become a place I fondly remember visiting in the distance past.

In order to please the algorithm gods and also remind everyone (including me) that I do furniture for a living, please enjoy this little trip down memory lane.

Summer shall soon be over, and normal service will resume. Watch this space 😉 🐇

What no paint and sawdust?! 😮 😮

It’s true, I have escaped the workshop and am taking a little time with the teenager for pampering, Prosecco and some laying quite still in various pleasant places.

Normal service shall resume on Saturday, but in the meantime chin chin 🥂 or namaste 🙏 to you, depending on which approach you take to a spa day… 😊 🐇

This is the very sideboard I was absolutely determined to restore rather than paint, because I had - incorrectly and apropos of nothing - decided that underneath several decades of shiny brown misery there would be some genuinely lovely timber.

ANYWAY.

So far we’ve had stripping, sanding, mysterious red bleed, quiet despair, louder despair, more sanding, priming, filling, a small act of burglary (I had to burrow in from beneath like an angry mole with a screwdriver and a grudge), and replacement locks.

And now, finally, I’m getting ready to paint it.

I shall maintain that I rescued it.

The sideboard may have a different version of events. 😬 🐇

Yes, I know I haven’t shown you the whole sideboard anywhere here, and that’s because I was so impatient to reveal all of that magnificent timber that I completely forgot to take proper ‘before’ shots. 😬

This enthusiasm was followed, of course, there was a day’s worth of ultimately pointless work followed by a minor meltdown, and none of that was worth recording unless required as evidence in a criminal trial.

Ah well.

Maybe the ‘after’ will make up for it.
It had bloody better. 😊🐇
