All my Term 2 work for the Diploma in Fine Jewellery is officially complete and ready to be sent off for marking! ✨💍

I’ve learnt a lot this term — from new techniques to more ambitious designs.

Today I've done something I don't do very often. I've made a ring for myself! I've been practicing resizing rings and thought I could make a feature of the added segment. So in this case I've added a small piece of gold to a silver ring. I then added a patina to the silver part of the ring to make the gold stand out more. I'm really pleased with the results!

✨ Jewellery Remodel Offer ✨

As some of you know, I’m currently working towards my Diploma in Fine Jewellery. As I begin planning my final project, my theme will be centred around recycling and reimagining old jewellery — and I’m looking for a volunteer to work with.

If you have any old, broken, or unloved jewellery tucked away, I’d love the opportunity to transform it into something fresh and meaningful. This would be completely free of charge, unless additional gold, silver, or gemstones are needed, as it forms part of my learning and skills development.

Whether it’s a sentimental piece that needs a modern twist or something you simply don’t wear anymore, I’m happy to help bring it back to life.

Ideally, I’m looking for one person, as I need to create a cohesive collection of three pieces. This could be three rings that complement one another, or for example, a necklace, a ring, and a pair of earrings. I’m specifically looking to work with gold or a mix of gold and silver, and the original pieces must be hallmarked.

Today I've mostly been experimenting with setting stones in wax ready for casting in silver. I've made this pendant that takes inspiration from the Great Wave of Kanagawa painting. The sunlight hits the top of the wave where the clear stones are, and the darker blue stones are in the shadow underneath. I'm really pleased with this and might actually send it off to be cast.

I'm nearly at the end of my first term doing the Diploma in Fine Jewellery and this is what I've made. I've tried all sorts of new things which have challenged me at times but I'm pretty pleased with my progress so far...

This evening I'm turning my hand to something other than making jewellery. I'm crocheting a spiky cactus. And sitting next to our wood burning stove. It didn't feel like an evening for being in the workshop... Although I have been known to crochet wire too!
