Some of you know that alongside running my business, I have also been a full time carer to my grandma for the last 7 years.
More of you will have heard me talk about her and have probably seen that we were closed a bit more this week due to bereavement.
Unfortunately this week my grandma passed away with me by her side.
My grandma raised me, she was my main carer when I was little and then when we both got older the roles reversed. She was the only close family I had left other than my dad and my cousin and the last connection I had to my mum. Itโs hit me hard.
She was one of the biggest supporters of my business (and everything I did really). Every day when I got home from work she would excitedly ask me how my day had gone, how much had I sold, did I have any new customers, see any of my regulars, sold anything interesting etc. If it had been a good day she would be more pleased than me and tell me how well Iโm doing. If Iโd had a quiet day she would console me and tell me how well Iโm doing ๐
I started The Shiny Pebble because I felt I couldnโt JUST be a full time carer, I needed to do something for me because obviously being a full time carer isnโt stressful enough I needed to add more to my plate ๐ As she needed more and more help she never once suggested I quit work- she knew how much it meant to me. Instead we got in some outside help. Often I would have to alter my opening hours because she wasnโt well or she had a medical appointment and she would try to offer to pay my staff costs ๐
Going forward I donโt know what I will be doing. I will have more time now so do I put more time and energy into The Shiny Pebble and grow? Or do I take a step back? I just donโt know right now.
What I do know is I love my shop, I love my customers, I love the people I work with, Iโm proud of what I have achieved and my grandma was proud of me and will be proud no matter what.
For now I just want to say thank you to all my customers, friends and colleagues. The next few weeks I will be busy making the arrangements and sorting things. I will try to make sure the shop will be open as much as possible and I attend as many of the markets that are booked in as I can, whether I am there or someone else is there. But we will probably be closed quite a bit.
If you have made it to the end of this thank you! Please bear with me whilst I navigate this. Your support means so much to me.
Thank you,
Beth ๐ค
