🩺 **GHANA MEDICAL LICENSURE EXAM: DON'T WAIT UNTIL AFTER FINALS TO START PREPARING**

For Ghanaian medical graduates, the journey is changing.

Passing your medical-school finals is no longer the only examination milestone to think about.

The **Medical and Dental Council Ghana (MDCG) licensure examination** should now be part of your preparation strategy. 🇬🇭

So how should a medical student prepare?

Ask yourself:

Start with the patients you will repeatedly meet in Ghana:

❤️ Heart failure
🧠 Stroke
🍬 Diabetes
🩺 AKI/CKD
🤰 Obstetric emergencies
👶 Common paediatric emergencies

**Common things must become easy marks.**

# # # 3️⃣ START DOING MCQs EARLY

Don't wait until you've “finished reading.”

Questions expose what you **think you know but don't.**

For every MCQ, ask:

**Why is the correct answer correct—and why are the others wrong?**

# # # 4️⃣ THINK LIKE THE DOCTOR ON CALL

When you see a clinical scenario, train yourself to ask:

**Is the patient stable? → What is the diagnosis? → What must I do NOW? → What comes NEXT?**

That simple sequence can organise many clinical questions.

Consent. Confidentiality. Communication. Professionalism. Recognising deterioration. Escalating appropriately.

Medicine isn't only about knowing the diagnosis.

🧠 **WHY DO YOU REMEMBER THE ANSWER AFTER LEAVING THE EXAM HALL? 😭**

You sit in the exam hall…

You KNOW you've studied this question.

But your brain says:

Then 10 minutes after submitting your paper…

Why?

Sometimes the information is in memory, but **stress and poor retrieval cues make it difficult to access at that moment.**

So how do you prepare better?

1️⃣ **Don't only reread — practise recalling without your notes.**

2️⃣ **Do timed questions** so your brain learns to retrieve under pressure.

3️⃣ **Mix different topics** instead of practising only one type repeatedly.

4️⃣ **Use memory cues** — keywords, diagrams, mnemonics and associations.

5️⃣ In the exam, if you're stuck, **move on and return later.** Another question may trigger the memory.
