In Loving Memory of Yiannis Magriplis

Last night, we said goodbye to the founder of Spongeo, our grandfather, and the heart behind everything we do. Yiannis Magriplis was more than a sponge merchant; he was a man of vision, kindness, and deep love for Kalymnos, the sea, and the traditions that shaped our island.

With his bare hands and tireless spirit, he built something lasting, not just a business, but a legacy rooted in respect for nature and family. His story lives on through every sponge, every conversation, every memory.

We’ll miss him deeply, but his legacy will always guide us.

Still in high school, but already diving into the family craft after class, he’s keeping the tradition alive near our warehouse in Kalymnos. 🌊

Natural sea sponges, handmade care, and a whole lot of heart — some things are just meant to be passed down.

Συνεργάτες μας αλίευσαν εξαιρετικά και πανέμορφα σφουγγάρια από τα καθαρά νερά της Κρήτης. Χθες, απολάμβαναν τον ήλιο στην περιοχή του επαρχείου μας με πληθώρα περαστικών να σταματούν και να αποτυπώνουν την ομορφιά του φυσικού αυτού θησαυρού!

John, the grandson of our founder Yiannis Magripis and a current high school student, is now running the sponge shop part-time near our warehouse.
