佛教中的「罪」是什麼?
不妨將其視為一次修心的機會，而非「末日審判」的約定。

學生們經常會問一個問題:「在佛教中，『罪』(sin)是什麼?」從藏語翻譯過來的「罪」通常是指「非善」(non-virtue)，它是從這六種偏愛中衍生出來的任何東西，它可能與某種偏愛，或幾種偏愛的組合，或是所有的偏愛都同時有關。

在傳統上，未修持六度的眾生被形容為如同迷失在密林或沙漠中的盲人。形容他是「盲人」，是因為他不知道什麼該做、什麼不該做，而且沒有朋友或導師引導他。他缺乏布施資糧的滋養，也無持戒盔甲的保護，他的安忍財富已然耗盡，推動他向前的精進也不夠穩定，他因不具禪定而無處棲身。最糟的是，他沒有可做為扶持的智慧拐杖。

不過，永遠不要以為「六度」超出你的能力所及；因為，如同寂天所說，沒有什麼是你不能習慣的東西。

根據無上金剛乘的教法，女性至爲重要，因爲她是空性智慧的象徵。空性智慧乃諸法之源，猶如虛空爲容納萬法之潛在容器。諸法存於虛空，若無虛空，則諸法不生。由此可知，若無虛空容納萬法，便無山川、河流、樹木、花朵等等。

從更具體的層面而言，此世間無數美妙之發明——如文化、醫藥、邏輯、數學、音樂、舞蹈、體育、哲學和藝術——均來自人類創造，而所有人類皆由女性所出。若無女性，這一切亦復不存。

What is Buddhist “sin”?
Think more an opportunity for mind training, less a Judgement Day appointment.

A question often asked by students is, “What is ‘sin’ in Buddhism?” “Sin”, usually translated from the Tibetan term as “nonvirtue”, is anything that springs from the six fondnesses [the mental attachments and afflictions overcome by practising the six paramitas]; it could be connected with just one fondness, a combination of several or all of them at once.

Traditionally, sentient beings who do not practise the six paramitas are said to be like a blind man who is lost and wandering in a jungle or a desert. He is blind because he does not know which activities to adopt and which to abandon, and has no friend or master to guide him. He lacks the rations of generosity for nourishment or the armour of discipline for protection. His wealth of patience has run out, and the diligence that impels his progress is unsteady. He has no meditation and therefore nowhere to rest, and worst of all, he has no staff of wisdom for support.

Never imagine, though, that the six paramitas are beyond your reach, because as Shantideva said, there is nothing to which you cannot become accustomed.

In this noble field that Buddha tamed,
