"5P"理論認為營銷策略一般是指價格策略（Price）、渠道策略（Place）、促銷策略（Promotion）、包裝策略（Package）和產品策略（Product）

根據跨國公司的調查數據顯示，在消費終端，有63%的消費者是根據商品的包裝和裝潢進行商品決策的；而到超級市場購買的家庭主婦，由於精美的包裝和裝潢的吸引，其消費量往往超過她們原先預計45%。由此可見，有商品的“第一印象”之稱的包裝是在市場實戰中越來越發揮不可忽視的作用。所以，將包裝（Package）稱為與市場營銷4P（Product, Promotion, Price, Place）組合平行的第5個P，使之合稱為新市場營銷的5P理論也不為過也。
