*Fast and Precise Welding Techniques*
The key = "prep fast, weld clean, move steady". Speed comes from not having to grind and redo.
Here are the 4 techniques + tips that pros use for both speed AND precision:
# # # *1. Choose the Right Process for the Job*

Rule: *MIG for speed on steel. TIG for precision on thin/critical.*
# # # *2. 7 Fast + Precise Techniques*
1. *Perfect Fit-Up = 50% of Speed*
Clamp it tight. Gap = 0. Precision starts before you strike an arc. 1mm gap saved = 5min of grinding later.
2. *Tack Weld Strategy*
Don’t run one long bead right away. Put small 1cm tacks every 10-15cm to lock parts. This prevents warping so your final weld stays precise.
3. *Backstep / Skip Welding*
Weld in 5cm sections, but weld from right to left. Jump around to spread heat.
*Why*: Stops distortion and keeps parts straight = precise.
4. *Push vs Pull Angle*
*MIG*: Push the gun 10-15° for cleaner, flatter, faster welds. Better visibility.
*TIG/Stick*: Drag/pull for deeper pe*******on.
5. *Consistent Travel Speed + Torch Height*
Use both hands. Rest your pinky or torch hand on the metal as a guide.
*Fast tip*: Listen to the sound. MIG should sound like "bacon frying". TIG like a smooth hiss.
6. *Pulse Welding - MIG & TIG*
Most new machines have this. It pulses heat on/off automatically.
*Result*: 2x faster on thin metal, way less burn-through, perfect stacked "dime" look.
7. *Preheat + Clean Metal*
Grind to shiny metal 2cm on each side. Oil/rust = porosity = you have to re-weld. Clean = one pass and done.
# # # *3. Settings for Speed + Precision*
1. *Voltage/Wire Speed*: Too cold = slow + lumpy. Too hot = burn through + warping. Do a test bead on scrap first.
2. *Gas Flow*: 12-15 L/min for MIG/TIG. Too little = porosity. Too much = wasting gas + turbulence.
3. *Use Jigs & Fixtures*: For repeat parts. Clamp once, weld 20 pieces exactly the same.
# # # *4. Pro Speed Hacks*
1. *Stitch Weld*: Instead of 1 long bead, do 3cm welds with 3cm gaps. Strong + fast + less heat distortion.
2. *Weld in Position*: Always try to weld "flat" or "downhill". Gravity helps you go faster.
3. *Right Size Filler/Wire*: Thicker wire = more metal deposited per second = faster. But too thick = less control.
4. *Good Lighting + Auto-dark helmet*: If you can see the puddle clearly, you won’t have to stop and check.

Fast means nothing if you’re not safe. Jacket, gloves, auto-dark helmet, ventilation. Especially for stainless and galvanized.
