How do you know a bee colony is actually healthy? 🌿

Yesterday, Dio and Pak Wayan checked in on the trigona nests, watching closely for activity levels, movement at the entrance, and how the bees respond to being observed. A quiet hive can mean rest. It can also mean something's wrong. That difference only shows itself if you know what to look for.

This kind of inspection happens regularly, not because something is expected to go wrong, but because a healthy hive is the reason we get honey worth harvesting at all.

Good honey starts with attention, long before it ever reaches a jar.

One month ago we installed our first air quality monitor with Majordera. These are the first real numbers from the air above our vines, the start of understanding our farm's climate the way we understand our vanilla. Quality begins long before the bean.

This is what the end of a month actually looks like on a farm. 🌿

The light softens, the farm settles into quiet, and for a moment, nothing needs tending. No harvest today, no visitors, just the vines resting in the fading colours of the day.

This is the part nobody photographs, but it's the part worth noticing. A farm this alive needs stillness too.

Another month closed. The vines will be ready for the next one.

From bean to powder, nothing added. 🌿

These cured vanilla beans just went through the grinding process, and what comes out is pure, fine vanilla powder. No fillers, no sugar, no artificial anything. Just the bean itself, ground down to its most versatile form.

Sprinkle it into batter, stir it into coffee, dust it over dessert. It dissolves cleanly and carries the same rich aroma as the whole bean, just easier to measure and use.

Two beans. Two completely different personalities. 🌿

Vanilla planifolia is the classic, warm, rich, and deeply aromatic. It's the vanilla most people grow up knowing, with high vanillin content and that signature bold flavour bakers rely on.

Tahiti vanilla is something else entirely. Lighter, more floral, with fruity and almost cherry-like notes. It's less about intensity and more about complexity, often favoured in delicate desserts and fine dining.

Neither one is better. They're simply built for different purposes, and knowing the difference means choosing the right bean for what you're actually making.

Nalua grows both, because real vanilla was never meant to be one-note.

The next wave is already forming. 🌿

While some flowers have already opened and been pollinated this season, new buds are now appearing across the vines, a sign that the flowering period isn't done with us yet.

Each bud will take its own time to develop before it's ready to open, and when it does, Pak Wayan will be there, same as always, ready within that single morning window.

The farm keeps giving, one bud at a time.

Another strong month for the hive. 🍯

This month's trigona honey harvest came in just as abundant as last month's, proof that the bees have had steady, favourable conditions to work with for two harvests in a row.

Consistency like this doesn't happen by accident. It reflects a healthy hive, a stable environment, and a farm that gives the bees exactly what they need to thrive.

The vines are telling us something good. 🌿

More flowers are opening across the farm this week, which means more mornings of hand pollination ahead for Pak Wayan. Each one only blooms for a few hours, so the work starts early and moves fast, flower by flower, vine by vine.

This is the season we wait for all year. More flowers now means more beans later, and every single one will still be pollinated the same way it always has been, by hand.

The farm is waking up. 🌺
