A massive congratulations to the Roscommon Ladies Football team on their fantastic All-Ireland Intermediate Championship victory! What a tremendous achievement and a proud day for everyone across the county as they brought the Mary Quinn Memorial Cup back to Roscommon with a superb win over Fermanagh.

From everyone at Roscommon Ploughing, we congratulate the players, management, backroom team, families, and supporters who have been behind this incredible journey.

You've done Roscommon proud and inspired communities across the county.

Congratulations to our neighbours in Mayo on a fantastic and historic All-Ireland victory. Well deserved!

On behalf of Roscommon Ploughing Association, we'd also like to acknowledge the many Mayo ploughing competitors who have supported our County Ploughing Championships over the years. We greatly appreciate the loyal support from our neighbouring counties, and Mayo competitors have never been found wanting. Their participation helps make our championships the great family day and celebration of ploughing that it is.

The countdown is on to the 2026 National Ploughing Championships, taking place in Screggan, Tullamore, Co. Offaly, from 15th–17th September. We look forward to another great Championships. 🚜🌾

It is with profound sadness that Roscommon Ploughing Association has learned of the passing of our dear friend and former member, Johnny Gallagher, Fuerty, a previous host of the Roscommon County Ploughing Championships.

Johnny was a valued, loyal and dedicated member of our Association whose contribution at both County and National level will never be forgotten. Serving as Head Supervisor, he earned the respect and admiration of all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Johnny possessed a rare gift for bringing people together. He believed wholeheartedly in inclusion, teamwork and working towards a common goal. A natural leader, he was always willing to share his knowledge, patiently demonstrating tasks, encouraging others to learn and giving members the confidence to become involved. His kindness, integrity, understanding and dependability made him not only an outstanding volunteer, but a true gentleman and a trusted friend.

It was especially heartening to see Johnny's grandson, Sean, compete in this year's Novice Ploughing Championships, proudly continuing the Gallagher family's long-standing connection and legacy within our Association. We hope that legacy of commitment, community spirit and love of ploughing will continue for generations to come.

As we mourn Johnny's passing, we also celebrate a life well lived and the lasting impact he made on our Association and the wider ploughing community. His friendship, leadership, wisdom and quiet generosity will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Our heartfelt sympathies are extended to his loving wife, Leonie; daughters Marrita (Richardson) and Karl (Miley); sons Michael and John D (JD); his sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, sisters Eileen Jennings and Anne Eivers; his cherished grandchildren Sean, Lily, Emma, Isla, Conor, Ria and Clodagh; his extended family, neighbours and his many lifelong friends.

May Johnny rest in eternal peace. He will be forever missed, fondly remembered and never forgotten.

💙 MEN'S HEALTH WEEK 2026 – REVIVE & THRIVE 💙

The members of the Kiltoom / Cam / Lecarrow Men's Shed, in partnership with Lough Ree Men's Shed, the HSE, and other local community supports, are delighted to invite men from across Roscommon and the surrounding areas to a special Men's Health Week event focused on health, wellbeing, connection and community.

📍 St Brigid's GAA Clubhouse, Kiltoom, Co. Roscommon (N37 WK60)

This free event will bring together health professionals, community organisations and local supports to provide practical advice, information and encouragement for men of all ages.
