Widely regarded as the worlds greatest Portrait and Sporting artist. His paintings hang in the most prestigious collections throughout the world. Among his earlier commissions were portraits of the comedian Eric Morecambe, footballer Jimmy Greaves, speaker of the house of Commons Selwyn Lloyd, Cardinal Basil Hume Archbishop of Westminster. (His portrait hangs in the Vatican), Frederick Forsyth, Lester Piggott, Steve Davis, and the first official portrait of the Prime Minister, John Major. Some of his more noteworthy Irish portraits were of Peadar O’Donnell, Sean McBride, Charles J. Haughey and Michael O’Hehir which were unveiled on RTE's Late Late Show in Dublin.

As Peter’s reputation as one of the World's leading Portrait Painters grew, he began to receive commissions from North America. His most notable patrons included Payne Stewart. Peter visited Payne Stewart’s home in Florida to paint his portrait, there he met and was commissioned to paint Tiger Woods and Mark O’Meara. Shortly after the tragic death of Payne Stewart, Peter’s portrait of the golfer sold for £1.4 million.

In 2006 Peter was commissioned by Dr. Michael Smurfit to paint the European Ryder Cup Team for the K Club. He has had commissions from major football and rugby clubs worldwide and has had his paintings displayed in the Society of Equestrian Artists and in the annual exhibitions of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters in London. Born in Monaghan, Ireland in 1941 Peter continues to receive commissions from around the world.

Shergar – Lester Piggott Up
from a Painting from Peter Deighan

http://www.gaelicart.ie/item/Shergar__Lester_Piggott_up/15/96/9575/

Shergar (born 1978. Sire: Great Nephew, Dam: Sharmeen) was an acclaimed racehorse, and winner of the 1981 Epsom Derby by a record 10 lenghts, the longest winning margin in the race's 226-year history. This victory earned him a spot in The Observer newspaper's 100 Most Memorable Sporting Moments of the Twentieth Century. A bay c**t with a distinctive white blaze, Shergar was named European Horse of the year in 1981 and was retired from racing that September. Two years later, on the 8th. of February 1983, he was kidnapped from the Ballymany Stud, near The Curragh in County Kildare, Ireland by masked gunmen with the body never being discovered. The incident has been the inspiration for several books, documentaries, and a film. Peter Deighan's marvellous painting features Shergar with Lester Piggott up winning the 1981 Irish Derby.

The People's Champions

http://www.gaelicart.ie/item/The_People's_Champions/15/159/9676/

Peter Deighan's terrific painting of three of the World's greatest ever sportsmen George Best, Joey Dunlop, and Alex Higgins. George Best (22 May 1946 – 25 November 2005) who most notably played for Manchester United and Northern Ireland. He was a winger whose game combined pace, acceleration, balance, two-footedness, goalscoring and the ability to beat defenders. In 1968 he won the European Cup with Manchester United, and was named the European Footballer of the year. In 1999, he was voted 11th at the IFFHS European Player of the Century election, and 16th in the World Player of the Century election. Pelé named him as one of the 125 best living footballers in his 2004 FIFA 100 list and Best was named 19th, behind Gerd Muller, at the UEFA Golden Jubilee Poll. In his native Northern Ireland, the admiration for him is summed up by the local saying: "Maradona good; Pelé better; George Best." Joey Dunlop, (February 25, 1952 - July 2, 2000), was best known for road racing. Referred to throughout the sport as "Joey", in 2005 he was voted the fifth greatest motorcycling icon ever by Motorcycle News. His achievements include three hat-tricks at the Isle of Man TT meeting (1985, 1988 and 2000), where he won a record 26 races in total. During his career he won the Ulster Grand Prix 24 times. In 1986 he won a fifth consecutive TT Formula One world title. Alex Higgins (18 March 1949 – 24 July 2010), also known by his nickname of Hurricane Higgins, was twice World Champion and twice runner-up. Higgins earned the nickname The Hurricane because of his speed of play. Alex was also a former World Doubles champion with Jimmy White and won the World Cup three times with the All Ireland team. He also came to be known as the People's Champion because of his popularity. Alex is credited to have brought the game of snooker to a wider audience and contributing to its peak in popularity in the eighties.

Mohammed Ali, the most famous, the most controversial, the most loved, arguably the most gifted and always the most entertaining heavyweight champion of the century. He was at various times, a poet, a prophet, a political pawn and a preacher, but it is as a punching perfectionist that he has won a lasting place in the history of boxing. He was undoubtedly the greatest. "Ali" is superbly captured in this magnificent painting illustrating superbly the grace and supreme skill only he possessed.

Damon Hill

http://www.gaelicart.ie/item/Damon_Hill/15/76/9644/

A tribute to a worthy World Champion. Peter Deighan has brilliantly captures Britains most recent Formula 1 World Champion Damon Hill and features both his father Graham Hill and Ayrton Senna. Damon Hill made his debut in Formula 1 in 1992 and in his first full season in 1993 finished a remarkable third in the championship, a feat only bettered by the great Senna and Prost. After a couple of near misses and a couple of close encounters with his fierce rival Michael Schumacher, Damon finally gained the crown of world champion in 1996, an achievement which matched his phenomenal talents. Lets hope there is many more like him...Published in a single limited edition of only 850 worldwide, each print has been personally numbered and signed by the artist himself.
