Saturday morning in Mitchelstown library
🏛️ CELEBRATING MITCHELSTOWN’S FAIR DAY HERITAGE
For generations, Fair Day was a huge part of life in Mitchelstown — a day when the town came alive with farmers, dealers, livestock, shops, characters, stories and plenty of craic.
As part of Heritage Week, Mitchelstown Library is hosting a special morning celebrating those memories through story, song, old photographs and film.

Local storyteller Terri Ryan will share stories from her own childhood along with memories handed down through three generations of the Ryan family, who ran the Corner Shop in the Square.
She’ll be joined by renowned harpist and singer Noreen Hellen (O’Donovan), who grew up in Newmarket Square and will perform a selection of songs.
🎞️ One of the highlights will be original film footage of Fair Day taken by Terri’s father, James Ryan, along with old photographs and memorabilia.
For anyone who remembers the Fair Days — or for younger generations who would like to see what Mitchelstown was like when the Square filled with cattle, horses, traders and people from all around the countryside — this should be a fascinating morning.
Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
