For my Mayo family and friends - I am so overjoyed for you. Most of you have waited your entire lifetimes for this moment. What a day 💚❤️

I scanned through my book on Irish proverbs and landed on this one to write out: it seemed fitting to acknowledge that the 75-year curse is finally broken!

📖 Not a literal translation of the Irish, but the one offered by John Quinn in ‘Daily Wisdom - Léann an Lae’.


Irish calligraphy lends itself well to this occasion, the uniquely Irish tradition of the GAA, and honouring the grit and determination of the Mayo teams who have survived the heartbreak of so many all-Ireland finals played and lost. ❤️‍🩹

I don’t know about you, but I barely saw the scribes of the Book of Kells as 3-dimensional human beings up to a few days ago. Medieval monks aren’t the easiest folks to relate to, you know? 🫤

So, I was a little surprised to have some feelings surface when I was confronted with their “calligraphy personalities”. 😄 I could imagine them working and interacting with each other and that made me smile.

Maybe that’s silly and I’m a great big softie, but it did resonate with me so I thought I’d share ☺️

How it’s made: Manifestation Mantra… 💙

First, I design my mantra ideas in pencil and go over them with a fineliner pen ✏️

Next, I insert my card into a mount and pencil the mantra on, so I know where the letters should go and where my boundaries are 🖼️

I load up my calligraphy pen with my ink of choice. This is Finetec Coliro watercolour in Sapphire 💙 Nib is Brause’s Blue Pumpkin 💙

Time to ink it in and enjoy the flow of those thick, juicy downstrokes. It’s such a mindful practice 💘

Call me nostalgic… but this was a project that felt significant. Because, these are the first wedding envelopes I’ve hand-lettered in a decade. ✨

I don’t usually take on projects like these (and I don’t advertise wedding calligraphy as one of my services), but this was a project for myself as much as it was for the lovely couple who contacted me. 👰🏻‍♀️🤵🏻‍♂️

There were 80 envelopes in total! So it was quite labour-intensive 💌💌💌 But I enjoyed the process thoroughly: getting back to the practice of calligraphy and spending some “me time” where I just switched off.

You all have been so encouraging in your feedback 🥹✨

In my survey, I have been asking you:
- Whether you have been or intend to learn calligraphy at one of my workshops, and
- Whether or not you would benefit from some online learning

And, from what I’m reading, many of you have an appetite for learning online 💡

There are definitely two groups emerging:
💻 Those who would like to learn online to make my classes more accessible (travel to Galway and weekday classes are an issue for some)
👩‍🎓 Those who do better with in-person coaching in a classroom setting

So, I’m coming up with some flexible options that I hope will embrace both styles of learning.

It’s the scoop you’ve been waiting for! 🧐

My latest blog post goes into detail about how I created all the calligraphy elements for my wedding 10 years ago. 💍💒

Some pieces were large, some were small, some took hours and hours of practice, and others I did with ease!

In the blog, I share my methods, the level of effort required, and an honest critique of the results. 🫣 Be warned: I didn’t love all of them but maybe I’m being overly critical!

After 15th April, Calligraphy Workshops are taking a break… to recalibrate 🔧

I adore teaching workshops, but I am not sure that they are serving you, the ones who want to learn calligraphy. ✍️

🫠 For starters, they are in Galway - where many of you are not.

🗺️ They give you a start with calligraphy, but no follow-up plan.

🥱 I host them on a week night - anyone else working too hard to stay awake on week nights?

Look, they aren’t all bad. 💙 Plenty of you have shown up to my workshops full of excitement and enthusiasm and we have had a great time. But, I know I can do better. And for this, I need your help…
