We clear out around 8 houses a week.
We take furniture, paintings, ornaments, delph and pretty much anything else we think we can sell.
“House clearance” is a term we use every day, but we often forget what it really means.
A lot of the houses we clear are from a recently deceased person. We go into their home and pack up a lifetime of possessions.
We take the furniture, we take the pictures off the walls, we empty the cupboards, we sort through everything and decide what we can sell and what has to be thrown away.
We do it so often that our teams have become numb to what we actually do!
When we do it every week, it's easy to forget that these aren't just things. They were part of people's lives and exist in people's memories.
That painting might have been hanging on their wall since their children were young. The grandchildren might have a memory of grandad telling them to 'ate that dinner' around the table (thanks Joe).
Ornaments might have been bought on holidays, given as presents or just collected over a lifetime. Then they arrive in our shops.
Someone sees a chair for €20. Someone else sees a nice painting, €10. Someone picks up a set of plates because they like it and are buying their first home, €5
They don't know the story behind those things, but we do...
And that's one of the things that makes our shops different. We know the stories...
We take the time to remember. We can trace everything back to a life lived.
Our shops are very, very unique, and we are genuinely humbled by the support we get from people every day. We are delighted to be part of the community in Wexford and thank everyone for your ongoing support.
