In Indian mythologies, Asuras are the “enemies of the Gods”. Celestial beings, not necessarily evil, but wielding untamed power that defies simple classification. Being lords of specialised knowledge and terrifying ability, serving purposes entirely their own, they choose whether to create entire worlds or destroy them.
The ASURA is a 4-voice rabid polyphonic synthesiser built in that image. Two wavetable oscillators run through a granular delay that shreds time in both directions, all of it feeding into Animal Factory’s roaring distortion circuits. Instead of the safety of a filter, you will control tone and timbre using positive and negative feedback loops. Lastly, assignable modulation over almost every parameter turns this synth into a living, breathing sonic shapeshifter.
Playing it is a negotiation with chaos. You will wrestle with harmonics, pull lush polyphony out of absolute ruin, and for a moment, you tame the beast and it listens.
A five-year collaboration between AFA and , this is the first modern synthesiser to emerge from India.
