The book is dense and demands concentration. Rupert Smith makes one central argument: war has changed. No longer can you bomb people out of the world.

"The Utility of Force" by Rupert Smith is brilliant. The book's title may give you the impression that Rupert advocates Rambo-style fighting in war. Instead the book's arguments are sober, cogent, and well-reasoned.
