Scale changes everything.
Seen close, Burano lace becomes almost abstract: thread turns into line, line into structure, structure into something that feels larger than the hand that made it.

Some cats are born domestic. Others look as if they have inherited a title.
Andrea Tagliapietra’s contemporary plaster sculpture already has that attitude: alert, severe, almost dynastic. The Burano lace collar by Dalla Lidia adds another layer: the rank. A detail so precise it changes the animal’s presence without softening it.

Some work is almost invisible while it is happening.
A finger holds the lace down. The needle enters a space no wider than a breath. The thread passes, disappears, returns. Nothing dramatic. Nothing photogenic in the usual sense.
And yet this is the exact point where luxury becomes difficult to fake: in a gesture too small to impress, repeated until it becomes knowledge.

Thread gives the figures their structure. Colour enters afterwards, to push the lace into another visual field. The result sits between textile work and painting, with neither discipline giving way to the other.

It could be the sea.
Not the blue surface, but the other sea: the one seen very close, where foam, nets, salt, light and movement become almost impossible to separate.
At this distance, Burano lace loses every polite association and becomes something more physical. A terrain. A tide line. A surface crossed by pressure, repetition, accident, control. The detail stops behaving like an ornament and starts behaving like matter.
Perhaps that is why white can feel so radical here.

Burano lace sometimes is difficult to classify. Like in this case. Always lace, for sure. But form, volume and invention as well.

Inside the Lidia Lace showroom, a dedicated section houses a private collection of antique lace gathered over the years with the eye of people who know the difference between rarity and nostalgia. Fans, fragments, historic pieces, technical examples: each one adds to the understanding of Burano lace as an art with its own language, periods, inventions and refinements.
This antique fan belongs to that archive of knowledge.
