Venice hides its best rituals in plain sight – found in its backdoor bàcari, the no-frills wine bars tucked along quiet canals. Locals lean on ledges or on steps by the water, sipping €3 spritz or an ombra (a thimble-y shadow of wine) with crusty bread topped with baccalà mantecato, sarde in saor or thick-cut mortadella. Classics like and its long-time Dorsoduro neighbour serve this up without fuss or flourish – just good wine, salty snacks and the occasional gondola gliding past. loves nothing more than dishing up bites on paper plates on napkins. And lately, a quieter current is rising too: a subtle natural wine scene led by places like , where skin-contact bottles and small plates feel right at home beside the lagoon. In-the-know crowds and the same Venetian soul – just refracted differently in the glass.

Inspired by Ocean with David Attenborough and full of hundreds of wonderful bookable addresses this diminutive but potent pocket guide talks to the best places to eat, adventure and stay around the UK. With lots of interviews with people whose livelihoods and passion is sea-focused, this guide includes sailing trips, foraging missions, seaside cabins, walks to explore and beaches for picnics, as well as zoning in on the passion for coastal saunas, maritime pubs for a pint, seaweed knowledge to soak up, and beach clean ups to join. Totally actionable, totally celebratory, it’s for getting under the sea-salty skin of this island nation.

Hudson isn’t suddenly cool – it’s always been. Just two hours from NYC, the upstate favourite keeps getting better. Spend the night at , a stylish, unfussy hotel in a former 1920s cinema, or twenty minutes away at for sleek cabins in the woods. Start with cocktails at , then book in for chicken Milanese at or smoked goat birria at . Swing by for the pistachio croissant or anything filled with jam, then on to lunch at before the super-stuffed meatball sub sells out. Hit for sculptural tools and landscaping gear, then shop antiques at (French collectables and serious silver). The next morning, recharge at over a coffee. No wonder is opening Grasmere House nearby this year.

, one of Dorset’s most historic estates, has gone through a raw and rebellious makeover by James and Sophie Perkins, the visionaries behind the Cotswolds’ eccentric wonderland, Aynhoe Park. After a mysterious fire in 2017 left the 16th-century manor in ruins, the resilient stone facade remained, and now has been reimagined with a fixing of Jurassic Coast fossils and skeletons in what Perkins calls “elegant decay.” James, a raving soul with a collector’s eye, used to hit antique markets at dawn while others were rolling out of nightclubs, and now he’s turned Parnham into a playground of the weird and wonderful: damask swags, ostrich feathers, and rooms that feel like a Bridgerton post card. The greenhouse restaurant, run by Sophie’s sister Harriet, serves up wild flavours from the walled garden alongside big pickling jars of preserved lemons and magnolia petals. Parnham isn’t just a restoration story; it’s a reimagining into something truly electric, set to stir up Dorset in the most unpredictable way.

Copenhagen is a purple patch of groovy, top-tier eateries. Though there’s one street within the neighbourhood of Nørrebro’s that’s home to the best addresses in town. A twenty-minute wander down this “coolest block” is ample time to have your tummy rumbles satisfied, thirst quenched, gourmet groceries purchased and home decorated. From a hybrid deli-kitchen serving up walloping flavours whilst dolling out local supplies, to the stalwart beer bars abutting the local fiskebutik, from a furniture emporium that sees you ducking and diving between the lamps, stools and silver-plated candelabras, to a cornerside hub dishing up the best udon noodles dunked in parmesan, this is the zone to have on your radar.

CDMX’s crumb trail grows ever more delicious. The Mexican capital might be known for its ‘book six months in advance’ restaurants and stacked street tacos, but right now it’s the panaderías getting people’s fingers sticky. The route winds through Roma and beyond: draws queues for its cult-followed guava rolls. does quiet perfection with croissants and kouign-amann – sweet, round laminated pastries. turns out glossy numbers with a side of French flair (try the orejas, Mexico’s answer to a palmier). And at access-only-by-buzzing-the-bell , pillowy conchas sell out by noon.

Crumbs on the sidewalk, warm butter in the air, CDMX is literally baking – and it smells amazing.

Artistic food moves up a gear. We saw the cool collision of food and fashion happen over the past few years from Jacquemus’ cherry necklace to YSL’s Sushi Park restaurant in Paris. Big name brands liked getting in the kitchen to prep for their runway shows as well as their poster ad campaigns. And, at the same time, creative food studios have turned to over-the-top styling, design, and considered culinary creative direction (and even scenography) during one-off workshops, sweet-tasting installations and sell-out ticketed events. In Berlin focuses on colour-combos for conceptual catering – water-kefir concoctions, pickled veg on bright ceramic plates. Also in the German capital, Hannah Kleeberg of .dining creates larger than life baguettes, grape towers, and cakes made of butter. From next month, Manchester’s will turn on full studio mode, teaming up with other cult-followed cooks for ticketed dinner parties, pasta rolling workshops and their take on the summer brunch – all plated prettily of course.

A very different look at the Canary Islands. Black pebble beaches, design-forward guesthouses and gastronomic pioneers, this is a less-trodden, slower-paced side to the cluster of islands in the Macaronesia archipelago. Amongst the laurel forests and wildflower strewn hillsides here are deeply original fusion-flavoured feasts and clear night skies for star-gazing into the cosmos. Stay in a tapestry-filled passion-project hotel, an Isabelline-Gothic Parador conversion or a Virginia Nieto designed volcanic retreat. Luscious, wild yet unfathomably swish, this is the Canaries on the flipside.

New stays in Puglia get punchy. A fresh wave of creatives are descending on the heel of Italy, reimagining once-crumbling homes into some of the most design-forward stays in the country right now. 17th-century palazzotto , in the heart of Salento, is reworked with original red metal bedheads and tables from a monastery in Abruzzo – sun-drenched but sharply styled, with an eye for pattern and patina. In Selva di Fasano has been restored by a group of friends including the Copenhagen-based founders of homeware favourite HAY into a quietly colourful 11-bedroom hideout. Painted frescoes and hand-laid terrazzo floors sit alongside Danish furniture and abstract art. Over in the countryside, Nigerian-raised jewellery designer Thelma West and her Neapolitan partner Stefano have transformed into a brooding beauty of arches, shadows, pattern-attack wallpaper and sculptural furniture – somewhere between rural romance and art-world retreat.

Salone del Mobile is upon us. This month’s key cultural event in Milan is where design junkies descend in a full furniture frenzy. Our gloobles go-to’s therefore zone in on where we’re munching and sipping and dunking and drinking amidst the hubbub of the main character action. So this coming week, when the showrooms are spilling over and the tastebuds need tickling – whether it’s slurping the sbagliato at Bar Basso, ceramic plate splurging , snacking on panino or snooping around the statues – here’s our roundup of bars, pasticcerias, restaurants and shops to scurry to at speed.

While hotels claim their much-loved spaces, cool apartments are currently giving them a really tough run for their money – both in terms of design edge and cultural clout. In Paris, baguettes on silver trays come delivered in the morning at , two 70s style bedrooms decked out with Pierre Frey’s archival floral tapestries, shiny lacquered wood panelling and pretty pistachio coloured cushions. On the Belgian coast in Ostend .apartment turned to carpentry studio to craft up a wavy wooden kitchen alongside a shiny metallic island in a hip mix of coastal contemporary flair by the sea. While over in Florence, all eyes have been on and its flip of the script, jazzing up a Renaissance palazzo into a minimalist art retreat and rotating residency programme for up-and-coming creatives. The group is now crossing waters with a fresh spot in Bahia, Brazil, bringing that same visual meticulousness to the tropics.
