A little Fudge Kitchen history..🎶🍫
Years ago, Marie Schwartz
became known in Stone Harbor as
“The Singing Fudge Lady”. Marie had a remarkable life in show business long before she ever sang behind the counter at The Fudge Kitchen. 🎶🍫
As a young girl, Marie performed on the radio, and in 1933, at just 14 years old, she was chosen to tour Europe entertaining veterans in Red Cross hospitals and U.S. Army camps. Among the performers on that tour were a young Bob Hope and Bing Crosby.
She later performed professionally on stage, radio and in nightclubs, even appearing at New York City’s Palace Theatre, where she was billed as “90 Pounds of Dynamite” because of her energetic dancing.
In 1940, Marie married her childhood sweetheart, George Graham, and together they had two sons, George Jr. and Harry. The boys clearly inherited their mother’s love of performing. By the time they were just 9 and 11, Marie was back on stage with them as “Marie and the Graham Crackers.”
The family performed in clubs, at Atlantic City’s Steel Pier and even in Las Vegas casinos including the Golden Nugget and Caesars Palace. They also performed alongside and around some of the biggest names in entertainment of the time.
Eventually, Marie brought that same personality and love of music to The Fudge Kitchen in Stone Harbor, where customers came to know her as The Singing Fudge Lady. Her songs became part of the experience — right alongside the fudge.
And the music never really stopped.
The man singing in this video is one of Marie’s sons, who stopped by yesterday and gave us the pleasure of a song❤️🎤
More than 70 years after he first performed on stage with his mother, he’s still singing.
Some family traditions are just too sweet to end.
From “Marie and the Graham Crackers” to The Original Fudge Kitchen — the music, memories and family history live on. 🍫🎶
