Approximately 300 years ago, a rare citrus variety was discovered on Awaji Island in Hyogo Prefecture: Awaji Darange, also known as Naruto Orange.

Once cherished throughout the island, Awaji Darange has gradually become a rare treasure due to the challenges of cultivation and the declining number of growers.

Founded in 1868 (the first year of the Meiji era), Takeno Douguten (Kutsuwa Co., Ltd.) continues a remarkable legacy. Today, its artisan is the sole successor preserving the traditional techniques of Arima Basketry, a craft dating back to the Azuchi–Momoyama period.
