Setsubun Festival celebration @ Rozanji Temple!
We celebrate Feb 3, the day before the beginning of spring in Japan, by throwing fortune beans ('Mamemaki') and eating 'eho-maki' sushi roll in silence facing the lucky direction of the year.
Cannot wait for warm spring to come!

Made and ate 'Nanakuda-gayu' (rice gruel with seven herbs) @ home.
It's a Japanese custom that on the morning of January 7 we eat it to have the effect of calming a stomach irritated by New Year's feast and also to make up for the loss of nutrients in winter, when vegetables are scarce.
Seven Herbs;
- Water dropwort (seri, Oenanthe javanica)
- Shepherd's purse (nazuna)
- Cudweed (gogyo, Gnaphalium affine)
- Chickweed (hakobera, Stellaria media)
- Nipplewort (hotokenoza, Lapsana apogonoides)
- Turnip (suzuna)
- Daikon (suzushiro)
