﴿ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلۡحَيُّ ٱلۡقَيُّومُۚ لَا تَأۡخُذُهُۥ سِنَةٞ وَلَا نَوۡمٞۚ﴾
Abdul Basit Abdus Samad, born on January 1, 1927, in the village of Armant in Qena, Egypt, was one of the most celebrated Qur’an reciters in modern history. Renowned for his exceptional vocal abilities, mastery of maqamat, and profound spiritual presence, he is often referred to as the “Voice of Heaven.” He memorized the Qur’an at a young age and pursued advanced studies in tajwīd and qirā’āt, earning widespread admiration for his flawless recitation.
Abdul Basit began his career as a reciter in local mosques before rising to national fame in Egypt after joining the Egyptian Radio in 1951. His mesmerizing voice quickly captured global attention, leading him to recite in numerous countries across the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and Europe. His recitations during Taraweeh and special Islamic gatherings left a lasting emotional impact on millions of listeners.
Throughout his distinguished life, Abdul Basit contributed greatly to the global spread of Qur’anic recitation. He served as the president of the Reciters’ Union in Egypt and participated in many international Islamic events. His recordings—whether from live prayers, studio sessions, or international tours—remain among the most popular and influential Qur’an audio collections worldwide. His unique style, deep emotion, and perfect command of tajwīd continue to inspire both reciters and listeners to this day.
