Over the past few years, I’ve rarely left the house without a hat. 🌿

I have melasma, so protecting my face from the sun has become part of my daily routine. Over time, what began as a necessity has become something I genuinely love to wear.

So when I started thinking about a new project for Mapenzi Ya Kanga, creating hats felt like the most natural next step. Each one combines hand embroidery with a kanga lining, bringing together two things I love.

For this first collection, I’ve embroidered a botanical motif inspired by a flowering vine in the WonderHouse garden (Our WonderHouse). Each hat is lined with a kanga featuring the msemo:

It felt like the perfect message for this new chapter of Mapenzi Ya Kanga.
