"5 Things every farmer should know about biogas:
1. Biogas in a composition of several gases. These gases include: Methane (CH4), Carbon Dioxide (CO2), water vapour (H2O), Hydrogen Sulhipde (H2S) among others. The only gas that burns in methane. This is what gives you the blue flame.
The higher the percentage of methane in your biogas, the higher hotter the flame. The hotter the flame, the better you cook, heat water or run your generator.
Hydrogen Sulphide is a poisonous gas in biogas. It corrodes metal. It is also harmful to a person if taken in large quantities. The good news is that it is only 1% in biogas. However as little as it is, it needs to be removed before biogas burns in your cooker or runs your engine. If it is not removed, very soon your cooker or genset will corrode and block gas outlets. It is easily removed using a device called 'desulphurizer'.
