Many stem plant species that can be trimmed in place without frequent replanting of tops. This includes species such as Ludwigia arcuata, Syngonathus species, Pogostemon deccanensis, Rotala rotundifolia and its many variants, and surprisingly, Rotala florida.

For tanks that utilize stem plants - it makes a huge difference whether a species have to be topped and replanted frequently (species such as Ludwigia pantanal) or can be trimmed in place without frequent replanting.
