Understanding Respiratory Diseases: Causes, Symptoms, Diagnostics and Prevention

Respiratory diseases encompass a wide range of illnesses affecting the lungs and airways. These conditions can be acute, such as the common cold or bronchitis, or chronic, like asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and lung cancer. With the recent global focus on respiratory health due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it's more crucial than ever to understand these diseases, their causes, symptoms, and preventive measures.

Causes of Respiratory Diseases

Respiratory diseases can stem from various sources, including infections, environmental factors, genetic predispositions, and lifestyle. Infections caused by bacteria, viruses, and fungi are among the leading causes of acute respiratory conditions. Chronic diseases often develop over time due to prolonged exposure to irritants such as to***co smoke, pollution, and occupational dusts. Genetic factors can also play a role in conditions like asthma and emphysema.

Common Types of Respiratory Diseases

Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is an infectious disease caused by influenza viruses. Symptoms range from mild to severe and often include fever, runny nose, sore throat, muscle pain, headache, coughing, and fatigue. These symptoms begin one to four (typically two) days after exposure to the virus and last for about two to eight days. Diarrhea and vomiting can occur, particularly in children. Influenza may progress to pneumonia from the virus or a subsequent bacterial infection. Other complications include acute respiratory distress syndrome, meningitis, encephalitis, and worsening of pre-existing health problems such as asthma and cardiovascular disease.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It primarily affects smokers and those exposed to lung irritants for extended periods. Symptoms include shortness of breath, chronic cough, and mucus production.

Pneumonia is an infection that inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs, which may fill with fluid or pus. It can be caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi and leads to symptoms like fever, cough, and difficulty breathing.

Symptoms to Watch Out For

Early recognition of symptoms can lead to timely diagnosis and treatment. Common signs of respiratory issues include persistent cough, shortness of breath, chest pain, wheezing, and fatigue. Severe cases may present with blue lips or face, rapid breathing, and high fever. If you experience any combination of these symptoms, seeking medical advice promptly is essential.

Diagnostics

The new molecular POCT analyzer based on microfluidic chip technology uses unique centrifugal rotation (acceleration, deceleration, positioning) to make the liquid flow and mix, which can complete the whole process of nucleic acid extraction and amplification detection of tested samples in the microfluidic chip, making experiments simpler, faster and more accurate. The machine is able to detect two samples at one time. Hysen 25-in-1 Upper Respiratory Tract Infection Panel is able to detect 25 common respiratory pathogens within 1 hour. With such extraordinary speed and wide range of detection, doctor can quickly decide to use what antibiotics.

Preventive Measures
Preventing respiratory diseases involves several strategies:
Avoid Smoking: To***co smoke is a major risk factor for many respiratory diseases, including COPD and lung cancer. Quitting smoking can significantly reduce your risk.
Vaccination: Vaccines for influenza and pneumococcal disease can help prevent respiratory infections.
Good Hygiene: Regular handwashing and covering your mouth when coughing or sneezing can prevent the spread of infectious agents.
Healthy Lifestyle: Maintaining a balanced diet, regular exercise, and managing stress can strengthen your immune system.
Avoid Irritants: Minimize exposure to pollutants, chemicals, and allergens that can irritate your lungs.
Regular Check-ups: For those with chronic respiratory conditions, regular medical monitoring is crucial for managing the disease effectively.

In conclusion, respiratory diseases are diverse and widespread, but understanding their causes, recognizing symptoms early, and adopting preventive measures can significantly improve outcomes. As we continue to navigate the challenges posed by respiratory illnesses, public awareness and proactive healthcare remain vital components in the fight against these diseases.

Hysen Monkeypox Virus Test
Human monkeypox (HMPX), caused by the monkeypox virus (MPXV) which is a double stranded DNA virus, a member of the orthopoxvirus genus within the Poxviridae family. It is a viral zoonotic disease, meaning that it can spread from animals to humans. It can also spread between people.
The incubation period of monkeypox can range from 5 to 21 days. The febrile stage of illness usually lasts 1 to 3 days with symptoms including fever, intense headache, lymphadenopathy (swelling of the lymph nodes), back pain, myalgia (muscle ache), and an intense asthenia (lack of energy). The febrile stage is followed by the skin eruption stage, lasting for 2 to 4 weeks. Lesions evolve from macules (lesions with a flat base) to papules (raised firm painful lesions) to vesicles (filled with clear fluid) to pustules (filled with pus), followed by scabs or crusts.
For Monkeypox virus detection, Hysen can offer two different methods based one different technology.
The first one is Human Monkeypox Virus Test Cassette. The Human Monkeypox Virus Test Cassette is a qualitative membrane-based immunoassay for the detection of human monkeypox virus antigen in lesion exudate/ oropharyngeal swab. In this test, antibody specific of Monkeypox Virus is separately coated on the test line regions of the test cassette. During testing, the extracted specimen reacts with the antibody of Monkeypox Virus that are coated onto particles. The mixture migrates up the membrane to react with the antibody of Monkeypox Virus on the membrane and generate one colored line in the test regions. The whole procedure only takes about 10 minutes to get the result. The presence of this colored line of the test regions indicates a positive result. To serve as a procedural control, a colored line will always change from Blue to Red in
the control line region, indicating that membrane wicking has occurred.
If you need more sensitive test result, we would suggest the other test method. The other one is Monkeypox Virus Nucleic Acid Test Card with relevant analyzer. The assay is based on isothermal amplification method and enzymedigestionprobe technology, and conserved regions are selected for specific primers and specific probes design. A large number of target sequence's copies weregenerated in the reaction system during the isothermal amplification. When the probe hybridizes to the complementary sequence, it is cleaved and fluorescence is emitted. Integrated Nucleic Acid Testing Device detects and analyzes fluorescence signal automatically, reporting negative, positive orinvalid result. The assay includes internal control for monitoring of sample collection, processing, and amplification to reduce false negative results.

Hysen HIV Ag/Ab Combo Rapid Test Cassette (Whole Blood/ Serum/ Plasma)
HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is the etiologic agent of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). The virion is surrounded by a lipid envelope that is derived from the host cell membrane. Several viral glycoproteins are on the envelope. During HIV infection, the p24 antigen is produced during the first few weeks and is detectable 7-9 days earlier than the appearance of HIV antibodies. As a result, the p24 antigen is an ideal marker in aiding early HIV diagnosis. Each virus contains two copies of positive-sense genomic RNAs. HIV-1 has been isolated from patients with AIDS and AIDS-related complex, and from healthy people with high potential risk for developing AIDS. HIV-1 consists of Subtype M and Subtype O. Highly divergent strains of HIV-1 were first recognized in 1990 and grouped provisionally as Subtype O as this variation has similar glycoprotein markers to HIV-1 but a slight variation to the protein marker. Although rarely compared to HIV-1 and HIV-2, infections caused by Subtype O have so far been identified in Africa (Cameroon), France and Germany. HIV-2 has been isolated from West African AIDS patients and from seropositive asymptomatic individuals. HIV-1, HIV-2, and Subtype O all elicit immune responses.3 Detection of HIV antibodies in serum, plasma or whole blood is the most efficient and common way to determine whether an individual has been exposed to HIV and to screen blood and blood products for HIV. Despite the differences in their biological characters, serological activities and genome sequences, HIV-1, HIV-2, and Subtype O show strong antigenic crossreactivity. The HIV Ag/Ab Combo Rapid Test Cassette (Whole Blood/Serum/Plasma) is a rapid test to qualitatively detect the presence of antibodies to HIV type 1, type 2, and/or Subtype O and antigens to HIV P24 in whole blood, serum or plasma specimen.
The Hysen HIV Ag/Ab Combo Rapid Test Cassette (Whole Blood/Serum/Plasma) is a qualitative, membrane based immunoassay for the detection of antibodies to HIV-1, HIV-2, Subtype O and antigens to HIV P24 in whole blood, serum or plasma. The membrane is pre-coated with recombinant HIV antigens in the test line regions T1. The T1 test line is pre-coated with HIV-1, HIV-2 and Subtype O antigen. The membrane is pre-coated with recombinant HIV antibodies in the test line regions T2. The T2 test line is pre-coated with HIV P24 antibodies. During testing, the whole blood, serum or plasma specimen reacts with HIV antigen and/or antibodies coated particles in the test strip. The mixture then migrates upward on the membrane chromatographically by capillary action and reacts with recombinant HIV antigen and/or on the membrane in the test line region. If the specimen contains antibodies to HIV-1 and/or Subtype O and/or HIV-2, one colored line will appear in the test line region; if the specimen contains antibodies to HIV-1 and/or Subtype O and/or HIV-2 and antigens to HIV P24, two colored lines will appear in the test line region. Both indicate a positive result. If the specimen does not contain HIV-1, Subtype O, HIV-2 antibodies and/or HIV P24 antigens, no colored line will appear in the test line region indicating a negative result. To serve as a procedural control, a colored line will always appear in the control line region indicating that proper volume of specimen has been added and membrane wicking has occurred.

Dengue is a flavivirus, transmitted by Aedesaegypti and Aedesalbopictus mosquitoes. It is widely distributed throughout the tropical and subtropical areas of the world, and causes up to 100 million infections annually. Classic Dengue infection is characterized by a sudden onset of fever, intense headache, myalgia, arthralgia and rash. NS1 is one of 7 Dengue Virus non-structural proteins which are thought to be involved in viral replication. NS1 exists as a monomer in its immature form but is rapidly processed in the endoplasmic reticulum to form a stable dimer. A small amount of NS1 remains associated with intracellular organelles where it is thought to be involved in viral replication. The rest of NS1 is found either associated with the plasma membrane or secreted as a soluble hexadimer. NS1 is essential for viral viability but its precise biological function is unknown. Antibodies raised in response to NS1 in viral infection can cross react with cell surface antigens on epithelial cells and platelets and this has been implicated in the development of Dengue Hemorrhagic fever.
The Hysen Dengue NS1 Rapid Test Cassette(Whole Blood/Serum/Plasma) is a qualitative membrane-based immunoassay for the detection of Dengue NS1 antigen in whole blood, serum, or plasma. During testing, the specimen reacts with Dengue antibody-conjugate in the test cassette. The Gold antibody conjugate will bind to Dengue antigen in the specimen sample which in turn will bind with Anti-Dengue NS1 coated on the membrane. As the reagent moves across the membrane, the Dengue NS1 antibody on the membrane will bind the antibody-antigen complex causing pale or dark pink line to form at the test line region of the test membrane. The intensity of the lines will vary depending upon the amount of antigen present in the sample. The appearance of pink line in the test region should be considered as positive result.
