"Must catch and devour — happiness." 🦎
In Poem for a Birthday, Madri writes growing older as a lizard's shimmering skin — thickened, green-sequined, worn like armour against the world. It's strange, tender and completely her own.
Paired with a painting of trees ablaze in autumn. Poetry you can frame.

Crime. Thriller. Romance. Experimental. Erotica. Horror. English.

"Every first novel carries a piece of its author's life." 🎭
Dramatist, novelist, translator and founder of Apey Kattiya — the "lovable dictator" who dragged Sinhala theatre into the modern age with plays like Boarding Karayo and Thattu Geval.
Happy birthday to a true original. 🔗 wachana.com

"I went to the sea today, near the Bambalapitiya railway station..." 🌊
If you know that stretch of coast — the coastal trains, the couples on the boulders, the sunset that shows up like a "magnum opus of one of history's greatest forgotten artists" — Sea Gazing will feel like home.
DRG writes the Colombo you actually live in.

Two languages. A myriad of emotions.
We think in Sinhala. We dream in English. We feel in both — and sometimes in the space between them, where neither language has the right word yet.
That in-between? That's where we write.

That story you've been carrying around for months — the one you keep meaning to write "someday" — deserves its first page. And someday isn't a day of the week.
Fiction, drama, romance, thriller, crime, whatever it is: the only version that matters is the one you actually start.
Today. Line one. Go. 🔗 wachana.com

"No. You don't have pain," he said. And each time he said it, she ceased to exist a little.
🏆 Baby Monitor by Dilukshi de Silva — a winning entry in the Wachana Short Story Competition, BubbleGum Edition 03.
A woman lies awake beside a husband she's come to fear, a baby monitor clutched in one hand, counting down the years until she can leave. It's a story told in near-whispers — about coercion, about going numb to survive, about the quiet violence that never leaves a visible mark. Dilukshi writes the interior of an abusive marriage with a restraint that makes it land even harder.
This is Sri Lankan fiction that says the things we're taught not to say out loud.

⚠️ Content note: domestic abuse, marital coercion.

"There is a sadness in the air, hanging..." 🕊️
From Graystone — a poem that opens on a bird shot mid-flight, frozen in the split-second before it falls. On the facing page, Madri's painting blooms in reds and greens, so the words and the image grieve together.
This is what makes Exulansis different: you don't just read it, you look at it.

"Reading was my university." — G.B. Senanayake 📚
The man who gave Sinhala poetry free verse (නිසඳැස්) and pushed the Sinhala short story into a new era. He never stopped writing — even after losing his sight, he dictated whole books.

Some stories aren't meant to be rushed. They're meant to be lived in — line by line, until the words start breathing on their own.
Slow down. Sink in. Let the story stay with you.
🔗 wachana.com
