How can you tell if a wetsuit is high quality and durable?

1. Seam construction: Look for wetsuits with glued and blind-stitched seams, which are reinforced with a layer of wetsuit material and are less likely to leak or come apart than flat-lock seams.
2. Stitching: It should be tight and even. Double-stitching and reinforced stress points improve the durability of a wetsuit.
3. Zipper quality: Zippers should be durable and corrosion-resistant, with a smooth, easy-to-use design. Look for wetsuits with reinforced zipper flaps to prevent water from entering through the zipper.
4. Fit and comfort: A wetsuit should fit snugly but not too tight, with no gaps or sagging material. Wetsuits with ergonomic panel designs and features such as seamless underarms can also improve comfort and durability.
5. Material: Wetsuits made from limestone are more durable than neoprene but also very expensive and the limestone must be mined. Wetsuits made from ecofoam are particularly durable, comfortable and have the additional virtue of being eco-friendly to the max.

Everything you wanted to know about wetsuit zips!

1. Back-zip wetsuits: the zipper runs vertically down the spine, allowing you to open up the back of the suit when getting changed. Back-zip wetsuits are the most common type of wetsuit and are often the most affordable. However, they can be less flexible and may allow some water to enter through the back zipper.
2. Chest-zip wetsuits: You can see these on our wetsuits. The zipper runs horizontally across the upper chest, allowing the wearer to open up the front of the suit and step in and out of it. Chest-zip wetsuits are usually the more expensive option, but they offer greater flexibility and are less likely to allow water to enter.
3. Zip-free wetsuits: they are designed to be pulled on and off like a tight-fitting shirt. These are the most flexible and can provide a more streamlined fit, but they can be more difficult to put on and take off, especially when wet.

Each type has its pros and cons - only you can say which wetsuit is best for you.

Coral reefs are incredibly diverse and vital ecosystems that provide a home to a variety of marine life. However, these ecosystems are facing an unprecedented crisis, from the warming of our oceans due to climate change, pollution, overfishing and coral bleaching.

We know how important it is to not only preserve but actively regenerate these beautiful habitats: we couldn’t imagine running Mahulu without also thinking about the world around us - especially the oceans we play in.

This is why we’ve forged a partnership with Living Reefs, donating 2% of all sales towards their coral reef restoration projects. They work to protect and restore one of Bermuda’s greatest natural resources and provide scientific insight to rehabilitate coral reefs on a global scale.

Today marks the start of the Paris Olympics! Will you be watching - or attending?

This is only the second time in the competition’s history that surfing is featured as a sport, initially taking place at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. This time, the men’s and women’s events will occur in Tahiti, almost 10,000 miles from Paris. They should start on 30 July but could be delayed to 4 August, depending on the weather.
