Today. Six years of Subtile. And what a journey.
On October 22, 2020, we opened our doors in the middle of a pandemic. Behind our masks, there was uncertainty, but also so much enthusiasm.
Looking back, I still love the simplicity and creativity of that first setting. From day one, my vision was to bring art, collectible design, craftsmanship and curated collectible pieces together, with functional art at the heart of a space for encounters and discovery. Six years ago, especially in Luxembourg, this mix was far less common than it is today.
I originally imagined a place where creators would work side by side permanently. Finding people ready to take that leap, and sharing Subtile’s unconventional spirit, was harder than expected. So the project evolved. And so did my role.
I may not be a maker myself, but I have ideas — and when I believe in one, I give it everything. Listening to what clients need, and cannot find, has now led me to imagine my own functional arty objects. Our first table, Celestial Nature, presented in Vienna, is a new chapter in that journey.
I also underestimated how long it would take to build recognition and spark curiosity. Subtile is not a traditional gallery: every exhibition means reinventing a large space, finding talents and pieces, creating new dialogues, and doing so much invisible work behind the scenes. Much of it on my own.
But I have never wanted to simply repeat what works or follow trends. I would rather initiate than follow, seek the unexpected and try to stay one step ahead. That takes time, creativity and tremendous energy — but it is also what keeps me going.
Today, seeing Subtile reach beyond Luxembourg is deeply rewarding. Yet this extraordinary space remains our identity and creative playground.
