Progressive lenses are advanced multifocal lenses designed to help people see clearly at different distances using one pair of glasses. Unlike bifocals or trifocals, they do not have visible lines separating the lens powers.
The image shows the three main viewing zones in a progressive lens:
⢠Distance Zone (Top Part)
Used for seeing far objects clearly such as driving, watching TV, or recognizing people from a distance.
⢠Intermediate Zone (Middle Part)
Designed for armās-length activities like computer use, cooking, or viewing a dashboard.
⢠Near Zone (Bottom Part)
Used for close-up tasks such as reading, writing, or using a phone.
The power changes gradually from the top to the bottom of the lens, allowing smooth transition between viewing distances.
This is why they are called āprogressiveā lenses.
Advantages of Progressive Lenses
ā One pair of glasses for multiple distances
ā No visible bifocal line
ā More natural vision transition
ā Better cosmetic appearance
Important Note
New users may need a short adaptation period to get comfortable with the different viewing zones and head movements required for clear vision.
Progressive lenses are commonly prescribed for people with presbyopia, especially adults over 40 who need help seeing both far and near objects clearly.
