Is Puerto Vallarta Safe?

I keep seeing this question pop up in groups and chats: Is Puerto Vallarta safe? 🤔

I get it. The media runs on drama. If something small happens, the headlines stretch it into a full Netflix series. 📺

Let’s talk about what actually happened three Sundays ago.

Early Sunday morning, around 8:30am, people noticed a few smoke pillars from burned cars and buses in different areas around Vallarta and the state of Jalisco. 🚗🔥🚌 News outlets rushed to build the story while it was still unfolding.

But the truth is, that was pretty much the event.

No civilians were harmed. In fact, there were several reports of tourists being helped and guided so they wouldn’t be affected. 🤝

By Sunday evening things were already quiet again. Authorities issued a red alert asking people to stay home, and businesses closed as a precaution. 🚨🏠 It was a Sunday anyway, so the city was already moving at a slower pace.

By Monday morning, yes, the streets felt unusually quiet. That’s what people do here when there’s an alert. They stay home. Some supermarkets had lines, but that’s mostly because many locals shop day to day. 🛒🥑 We personally buy fresh food daily, like many people here.

By Monday afternoon things were already loosening up. Even our neighborhood mini market opened. By Monday evening, it felt like the city had exhaled and things were returning to normal. 🌤️

Tuesday, the airport, transportation, shops and restaurants were running as usual in Puerto Vallarta. ✈️🚕🛍️

Wednesday, schools were back. 🎒

So in reality, this was a Sunday morning event followed by about two days of precautions. Then the city did what Vallarta always does. It kept living. ❤️

I’ve lived in cities on three continents and visited more than 30 countries. I can say this with a straight face: I feel safer here than many places I’ve lived before. 🌎

PV Shopping For You Wanted to leave a review. Wonderful company to work with! Patt was my shopper and she communicated with me during the entire process. She spoke English which was very helpful for me. The croissants are huge and delicious! We also ordered 3 different meals and all we excellent!! Get the pico too. Should have ordered 2!! Thank you for all your hard work in getting all my groceries and alcohol for a 16 night trip for at times 7 people!! Saved me hours of shopping!! 5 stars 🛒🚐
