We are so happy and honoured to be invited by Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Sibu to bring two special storytelling sessions to children next coming weekend!

This time, we're bringing two very different stories, and each story will lead us into a different hands-on adventure. 🌟

⛏️ 5 September 2026 | 3:00 PM

SAM & DAVE DIG A HOLE

What happens when two boys keep digging and digging… but somehow miss the most amazing things right beside them? 👀

Get ready to scrape, scoop, explore and wonder as we bring this wonderfully mysterious and funny story to life!

After the storytelling, children will continue the adventure with a special hands-on workshop inspired by the story.

THE ADVENTURES OF BEEKLE: THE UNIMAGINARY FRIEND

Beekle has been waiting and waiting for his child to imagine him. But when nobody comes, he decides to set off on an adventure to find his friend himself. 💛

This time, children won't just sit and listen. They will become part of Beekle's imaginary world, help him on his journey, and discover the magic of friendship and imagination.

And of course, we'll have another creative workshop after the storytelling!

This coming-up school holiday, give your child something more valuable than another day in front of a screen.

Childhood isn't meant to be spent only indoors scrolling through devices.

It's meant for muddy hands.
For stories that spark imagination.
For discovering tiny insects on a leaf.
For creating something with their own hands.
For making friends.
For asking endless questions.
For laughing until their cheeks hurt.

At Love Reading Bookstore, we've carefully planned a 5-day Holiday Adventure Camp that combines our favourite things—picture books, nature, creativity, messy play, and free play.

Every morning begins with a carefully selected picture book, because we believe every adventure starts with a story.

Then, we'll head either outdoors to explore nature, splash through water and mud, or stay indoors to craft with air-dry clay and enjoy open-ended play and board games together.

No two days are the same.
This isn't about filling their holiday timetable.
It's about filling their childhood with moments they'll remember.

Discovery: Rhino World

When was the last time your child learned about rhinos?

Most children can name a lion, an elephant, or a giraffe... but did you know there are five different species of rhinos, each with its own unique characteristics and habitat?

This Reading Time, we're inviting little explorers to journey into the fascinating world of one of Earth's most magnificent—and endangered—animals.

Together, we'll discover where rhinos live, how they survive in the wild, and why they need our protection. Through stories, conversations, and hands-on creativity, we hope to spark not only curiosity, but also a love and respect for wildlife.

📖 Storytime featuring a rhino-themed picture book
🦏 Discover different rhino species and their habitats

💬 Share ideas, ask questions, and learn together

How often do children get the chance to splash water without being told, "Don't get wet!"?

How often are they encouraged to throw colours, make a mess, experiment, and simply enjoy the process of creating?

This public holiday, let your child do just that.

🌊🐠 An Afternoon Beneath the Sea 🐠🌊

Our Reading Time: Discovery – The Underwater World was filled with energy, laughter, curiosity, and imagination from beginning to end.

We kicked off the session with a lively warm-up using a cheerful Malay action song. Before long, the children were singing, dancing, clapping, and laughing together. The room quickly transformed into a space full of smiles and excitement, setting the perfect tone for an afternoon of learning through play.

Next came our storytime. We shared Under the Sea by Nor Azhar Ishak, and it quickly became more than just a story—it became a wonderful conversation.

To be honest, I hardly had the chance to do much talking! 😄

Every page sparked a wave of excitement as the children eagerly shared everything they knew about the underwater world. They talked about sharks, different kinds of fish, turtles, octopuses, jellyfish, and whales. They excitedly told stories about their own visits to the beach and aquariums, asked thoughtful questions, and listened attentively as their friends contributed their own experiences.

It was such a beautiful reminder that every child comes with their own knowledge and experiences. Sometimes, all they need is a good book and a welcoming space to give them the confidence to share.

After our storytime, it was time to let their imaginations swim freely.

Each child created their own underwater world through doodling. They filled their drawing paper with different fish and coral reefs, from their own imagination.

Time simply wasn't enough!

Many of the children wished they could keep drawing, adding more creatures, more colours, and more little details to their underwater worlds. Although not every masterpiece was completely finished, each one reflected the child's unique imagination, creativity, and perspective. There was no "right" or "wrong" way to create an ocean—every drawing was a world of its own, and we loved taking time to admire every single one.

Moments like these remind us that reading is never just about turning pages. A good story invites children to think, imagine, ask questions, make connections, and express themselves in ways that are uniquely theirs.

Thank you to all our little explorers for diving into the adventure with us. We hope you brought home not only your artwork, but also a little more curiosity about the amazing world beneath the waves.

We can't wait to see where our next Reading Time adventure will take us! 📚💙🌊

☃️ A Morning Filled with Snow, Story & Smiles ☃️

Our Winter Wonderland Adventure may have come to an end, but the laughter and happy memories are still fresh in our hearts.

We were so happy to welcome Emma and Dalinda back to Love Reading Bookstore, and at the same time meet two new friends, Ethan and Emika. Together with our three little ones from home, we had seven children filling our little bookstore with laughter and excitement. It was a cosy, lively morning—just the way we like it.

We started the session with a simple ice-breaking game. It gave the children a chance to get comfortable with one another while we waited for everyone to arrive. Within minutes, strangers became playmates, and the room was already filled with giggles.

Then it was time for our story.

We shared Snow by Roy McKie and P.D. Eastman, and the children were wonderfully engaged throughout the story. They eagerly answered questions, shared their own thoughts, laughed at the funny moments, and imagined what it would be like to experience snow themselves. Watching children become part of a story instead of simply listening to it is always one of our favourite moments.

Inspired by the story, everyone settled down for some quiet creative time. Each child drew their own snowy landscape, imagining a winter world in their own unique way. When the drawings were finished, the magic happened—we sprinkled "snow" over their artwork.

No two pictures looked alike. Every masterpiece reflected the imagination of the child who created it, and every one of them was beautiful.

And then...

The moment everyone had been waiting for finally arrived.

The messy play began!

The moment the children spotted two pools of water, huge piles of ice, fluffy "snow," and wobbly jelly, all self-control disappeared. Little hands splashed, scooped, squeezed, poured, and explored.

The yard was instantly filled with squeals of excitement. Water splashed everywhere.
Ice cubes flew from one container to another.
Jelly jiggled between tiny fingers.

It wasn't just messy—it was joyful, curious, and full of discovery.

Some adults may only see wet floors and soaked clothes, but we saw children experimenting, problem-solving, collaborating, creating, and experiencing the world through all their senses.

That is the beauty of play.

Thank you to every family who joined us and trusted us with your little ones. Thank you for embracing the mess, the laughter, and the magic that comes with childhood. We hope the children went home not only with their snowy artwork, but also with warm memories of a holiday well spent.

And if there's one thing we learned that morning...

Our little adventurers absolutely LOVE water! 💦

So we've decided to give them even more of what they love!

🎉 This coming public holiday on 25 August, we'll be back with another exciting adventure—Water Splash & Colors Splat!

Get ready for water balloons, colourful sponge splats, DIY floaty boats, storytime, and another morning of laughter, creativity, and joyful mess.

📚 Thank You, Sibu Urban Art Festival 2026 ❤️

Over the past weekend, Love Reading Bookstore had the pleasure and honour of collaborating with Sibu Urban Art Festival for the very first time. It was a wonderful opportunity for us to bring our curated children's books and free storytelling sessions to the festival, sharing the joy of reading with families in a different setting.

Over the two days, we welcomed children and parents to browse our books, listen to stories, and discover the magic that picture books can bring. Although the crowd was smaller than we had hoped, we still had a truly meaningful experience.

One of the greatest joys of joining events like this is meeting people. We were delighted to get to know the friendly team behind Aroma Stall, as well as the wonderful people from Microwave. Conversations like these remind us that every event is more than just selling books—it's about building connections within our community.

To everyone who stopped by our booth, whether to flip through a book, listen to a story, chat with us, or purchase a book to bring home—thank you. Every conversation, every smile, and every book that found a new home means so much to us. Your support encourages us to continue doing what we love.

A heartfelt thank you also goes to our amazing team and our three little storytellers, Lov, Yueand Dalinda, who spent time preparing for their storytelling sessions. Sharing stories in public takes courage, and we're so proud of the passion and confidence they continue to grow with every opportunity.

Lastly, we'd like to apologise to two of our storytellers whose sessions had to be cancelled because there were no participants. We know it was disappointing after preparing so earnestly. Even so, we hope you'll continue to believe that every story shared has its value, whether it's heard by one child or one hundred. There will always be another opportunity, another audience, and another story waiting to be told.

Thank you once again, Sibu Urban Art Festival, for having us. We look forward to the next opportunity to bring more wonderful stories, carefully curated books, and the love of reading to our community. ❤️📚

【把一本好书带进校园 ❤️】

昨天，我们一家四口带着阅乐书店精心挑选的绘本与童书，走进了鼎新小学（SJKC Ting Sing），参与学校举办的阅读推广活动。

首先，我们要衷心感谢鼎新小学给予阅乐书店这个机会，让我们能够透过故事与好书，与孩子们相遇。同时，也让我们在校园内举办书展，让孩子们和家长有机会亲自翻阅、接触更多优质童书。

特别感谢 冯榕凤老师 的用心筹划与安排。为了促成这次活动，她花了许多心思，积极协调，让原本不容易实现的活动最终顺利举行。除了为我们两位大人准备了纪念礼物和感谢状，她更贴心地为两位小小故事人——以乐和光悦，准备了属于他们的小礼物、小点心，以及专属于他们的感谢状。孩子们收到时又惊喜又感动，也觉得自己被认真地看见和肯定了，这份心意真的让我们非常感激。

鼎新小学约有65位学生，学校把孩子们分成三个时段参与活动，分别是幼儿园、低年级和高年级。

我与低年级的孩子分享了宫西达也老师的《神奇糖果店》，希望透过故事，让孩子们发现阅读带来的惊喜与乐趣；庭文则向高年级的同学介绍深受许多孩子喜爱的《不一样的卡梅拉》，邀请他们走进更丰富的阅读世界。最后，由以乐和光悦担任小小故事人，为幼儿园的小朋友分享 Eric Carle 的《From Head to Toes》，我则接着分享《好饿的小蛇》，和小朋友一起说故事、动身体，现场充满了欢笑声。

这是鼎新小学第一次举办阅读推广活动。虽然是第一次，却让我们看见学校愿意为孩子创造更多接触阅读的机会，也看见老师们对阅读教育的重视。

活动结束后，不少家长和孩子来到书展翻阅书籍，也有约17%的学生把喜欢的书带回家。或许这个数字并不算高，但我们相信，阅读从来不是一朝一夕就能培养起来的习惯。每一次故事分享、每一本被翻开的书、每一次亲子共读，都是一颗颗阅读的种子。

我们相信，这只是一个开始。

当学校、家庭与社区一起努力，持续为孩子创造阅读的机会，终有一天，这些种子会慢慢发芽、成长，让越来越多孩子因为一本书，而爱上阅读。

谢谢鼎新小学，也谢谢每一位愿意陪伴孩子阅读的大人。愿我们继续携手，把更多好书送进校园，也送进孩子们的心里。我们始终相信，每一个孩子，都值得拥有接触好书的机会。

我们不在意学校位于城市或偏远地区，只要有孩子，我们都愿意带着故事和好书前往；我们也不在意学生人数的多少，只要有一位孩子愿意听，我们都会认真地分享每一本书、每一个故事。
